To the eyes of ordinary people, the world is nothing more than what they can see with them: an average planet inhabited by people of the same kind. What would you think if I told you now that this isn't true? That it can change. That everything you believe goes far beyond what you can imagine and, most importantly, see. No, I'm not mad. Trust me. That's why, before we go on, I want you to really think about your answer to this question:
Have you ever stopped believing?
Over the years, some people tend to forget what made us happy when we were young. The things that allowed us to reach unimaginable places with just our imagination and fight fantastic creatures of all kinds. In short, they forgot what it was to dream. Some call it growing up, but I, to those who laughed at us and mocked us when we dived into worlds of fantasy, I call them villains in my story. But I'm sure you know their mundane name.
The first drafts of The Scepter of Arándelis and The Lost Kingdom, TSOA, were born when I was nearly fourteen, under the yoke of those villains who criticised everyone who loved fantasy, fairies, adventures, magical worlds, and, in general, travelling and dreaming through books. And although it sometimes seemed like they were going to win, to the point of making you believe that you aren't capable, there was always, always, always, that story that made it worth continuing to believe.
Today, with twenty-four, ten years later, I've won.
And today, whether you've been a villain, a hero, or are just taking your first steps, I want to ask you something.
I want you to believe, even if it's just for a moment.
To believe me.
Come on, close your eyes, and take a deep breath.
Here we are, just you and me.
No one else.
Imagine you're crossing that door adorned with precious stones that release different scents when you rub them. Sometimes they smell wonderful, and other times they're so unpleasant they make you recoil. Maybe you're riding a golden dragon fighting flying serpents. Watch out for those deadly glares! Perhaps you have a wand, or you've gone to the best summer camp for special kids, or... Did I just see a rune drawn on your body? Wait! Did I tell you what I found under my bed? A book with which, thanks to the "Witch's Leap," we can travel to any time, needing only an object from there. How amazing! Hold on, is that Mako Island? Watch out for the splashes and sprinklers!
So, did you got it, even if was just for a second? Good. That means you've found what I was looking for.
You've found, whether it's on this list or not, that book.
What would you think, then, if I told you that those stories can become real again and that magic exists?
Maybe not as it appears in this book, but it exists within each of us. And it's that magic that has brought you to the point of reading this.
As for the other kind... Well, I must confess something. When things happen for no apparent reason, when events occur that can't be understood or explained by science, that's where our world comes into play.
The magical world.
A place full of those unimaginable creatures, of people endowed with special gifts, of fantastic beings capable of surpassing the limits of imagination and understanding. A world that was hidden and safe and sound until... Well, well! All in good time. Let's start from the beginning, shall we?
It is my honour and pleasure to tell you:
