THE door swings open, revealing Sara, who has a soft smile on her face.
"Hi," She says, "I'm glad you made it."
"Me too," Dylan nods, "Your house is... really nice. From the outside, I mean."
"I'd like to think it's nice on the inside too," She shrugs, "But I'll let you be the judge. You wanna meet my dog?"
"Hell yeah, I want to meet your dog."
•••
"Come on," Sara shakes her head, stepping out of the room and into the kitchen, "No way."
"No, seriously," Dylan insists, sitting criss cross on the couch, with Goodwin in his lap, "For, like, a year and a couple months."
"I can't believe you were Mush in Newsies," She raises her eyebrows, "On Broadway, no less. Impressive. You know I did Cady in Mean Girls for, like, two shows before Covid hit?"
"Are you serious?"
"Black."
"You seem like a Karen," He says.
"Are you calling me stupid?"
"...Well--"
"Oh, fuck off!"
Sara laughs softly and then walks back into the living room, an acoustic guitar in her hands, "Here we are. My first ever guitar."
"What was the first song you learned?"
"Jump Then Fall. Taylor Swift," Sara looks down at the guitar, "You play, right?"
"...Yeah."
"Play me something."
Dylan shakes his head, "No, no... I'm not that good, honestly--"
"Dylan," Sara cuts him off, "Play something for me."
He sighs, taking the guitar from her as Goodwin scurries away.
He messes with it for a minute before settling on a song. Anyone Else But You, The Moldy Peaches.
Sara listens to him sing the first verse, and she joins in during the second one, her chin in the palm of her hand and a soft smile upon her lips.
They take turns singing the verses before finishing the song together with an accidental harmony.
Sara chuckles softly, her eyes scrunching up.
"Your voice is... good."
Sara laughs at that, "I should hope so."
"No, I mean, it's like... fucking remarkable."
She looks at him for a moment, shaking her head softly as Goodwin curls up next to her.
"Your voice is good too," Sara says, "You're a triple threat. Singer, actor... and Christmas tree farm salesman."
Dylan laughs quietly at that, realizing how close their legs are, "Yeah, you tend to need other talents when that's your main one. People don't typically buy Christmas trees when it isn't December, believe it or not."
"Well, thank you for playing me that song," Sara replies.
Sara looks away, but Dylan's eyes stay on her for a minute.
She looks back at him, "What?"
"...You're just pretty," He tells her.
Her cheeks warm, a pink tint overtaking them, "Shut up."
"I mean it," He says.
She turns her head back to him, contemplating before leaning forward and placing a nice, short, meet-you-halfway kiss to his lips.
The kiss lingers for a moment before Dylan leans back.
"I can do better," He says, "I didn't expect it, so it caught me off guard, but I can do better--"
Sara chuckles, leaning forward and kissing him again.
