AN HOUR LATER I FIND MYSELF READY TO GO ON A HIKE, together with a few other people, our mission being to see if we could get the transceiver to work.

A guy, whose name I've learned is Sayid, explained how we need to get it to higher grounds for a chance that it could work.

The group ends up consisting of Boone, Kate, Shannon, Charlie, Sayid, and myself.

As we enter the jungle, I purposefully walk in the back of the small group. In doing so I'm the first person to notice Sawyer's sudden presence as he walks up behind me.

"You decided to join us," Kate says when he bumps softly into her shoulder.

"I'm a complex guy, sweetheart," he responds without looking back.

It is safe to say that I wasn't ready for the terrain waiting for us. The amounts of hills and muddy fields we have to climb can't be counted on one hand. At some point we reach a very steep hill, but we all know we have to keep going. One after another we start climbing. Sawyer being in the front, helps the others up as they come. Due to myself keeping my place in the back of the group, I end up as the last person to climb. I'm thankful for the roots that are attached to the dirt, so there's at least something to grab onto. But as I reach the edge the only possibility I have of getting up is with Sawyer's help.

"Come on, love," Sawyer grins, extending his hand out to me. "Promise I won't drop ya'."

As much as I hate to do it, I clasp his hand in mine. He lifts me up, so I can grab the edge of the hill and let go of his hand again. As we both begin to try and get onto safe ground, I suddenly feel my foot slip. In a panic I yelp out of fear as my hand slips away from the grass. With only one hand left to keep me from falling I use all the strength I have in me.

"Mia!"

I hear Sayid's voice above me and shortly after I see his and the others faces as they kneel by the edge of the hill to help me.

Before they can I feel a strong arm being wrapped around my waist and hoists me up. Sawyer presses me against his own body to keep me from falling as he keeps a tight grip on me.

"Take my hand," Sayid tells me, extending his hand down to me.

I don't hesitate before tightly grabbing his hand. Kate, Boone, and Charlie all assist in helping me get up by gripping onto my arms. I'm finally able to breathe out when I feel stable ground beneath me. However my worries don't stop there and I hurry to help Sawyer up, but when I glance up I find him already standing above me, dusting dirt off his pants.

"Mia, you okay?" Kate asks, breathlessly.

I nod frantically. "Yeah," I assure her and lock eyes with Sawyer. "Thank you."
