I can't ignore the aching feeling that's appeared in my cheekbone overnight. It seems to be a pretty nasty hit that I got the day prior. After removing the bandage Sawyer had applied, a purple bruise circles my cheekbone. As I touch it softly, my finger only just makes contact with my skin before I flick my hand away in pain.

Damn it, I think. Why did I have to get involved?

"Hey, Mia," Jack comes walking over to greet me in the medical hut. It seems he doesn't notice my face at first, but when he gets closer his face changes drastically. "What the hell happened to you?" He hurriedly lets the bags he's carrying slip from his shoulders and goes into full on doctor mode.

"I'm fine, Jack. Don't worry," I assure before explaining, "I'm sure someone's told you about the incident between Micheal and Sun's husband yesterday, right?" He nods at me. "Well, I somehow thought it would be a good idea to get involved and ended up with this nasty bruise."

Jack's eyes scan my bruise. "Did someone tend it?" he asks, worriedly.

"Yeah, Sawyer helped me rinse it and put on a bandage."

Jack creases his eyebrows. "We're talking about the same Sawyer?" he grins.

I snicker in response. "The one and only."

"Anyway, I actually came to ask you about moving into the caves?" he changes the subject, "I would really like having you there."

"Why?" I ask, confused.

"Well, you're a nice person. It'll be good to have someone to keep the other's hopes up. Plus, I like you."

A smile makes its way to my lips. It feels good to be appreciated. "I like you too, Jack," I half joke, although it's not a lie. Either way, it makes him laugh. "But, I was just thinking. . . what if a ship comes and there'll be no one here to get its attention? Or another plane?"

He rests both hands on his hips. "We'll have someone stand guard here so there'll always be someone here to see it if an opportunity comes."

Growing silent for a bit, I think through the pros and cons of moving to the caves before coming to a conclusion. "Okay, I'll come with you," I smile.

A big smile appears on his face. "Great. I guess I'll see you later then?"

"Yeah, I just gotta help Sayid with finding the source of the distress code. I promised him I would," I infirm him, crossing my arms over my chest. "But, I'll probably get to the caves by nightfall."

"Great. See ya," Jack waves once as he walks off to the caves.

Just then, I spot Sayid, Kate, and Boone circled together in the middle of the beach. Sayid looks to be explaining something and sticks a metal pole as deep as it can go into the sand. I leave the medical hut, feeling the sun warm up my body.
