Author's note: In my school, there was no such thing as a ball with a queen and king of the ball. I have no idea how this works.
The day of the graduation ball finally arrived.
Percy had been feeling restless all they (more than normal), maybe because of anxiety, maybe because his ascension being closer every day (Poseidon was already keeping an eye on him, to pick him up as soon as it started). Whatever the reason, he was restless but was able to focus enough to get ready for the party, putting on a suit and waiting for Annabeth.
She was gorgeous wearing a blue dress with silver details, her hair in a complicated hairstyle that Percy didn't try to understand, and a makeup that highlighted her eyes.
Percy put the corsage of blue lilies on her wrist and both of them posed for the thousands of photos Sally insisted on taking.
Once the photos were over, Percy drove Paul's car to where to party would take place.
The décor was beautiful and promised a perfect night.
The couple
The couple found their friends quickly, it would be a night of goodbyes as they would hardly see them again.
- You are matching – was the first thing David said (and they were, Percy was wearing a grey Italian suit with a tie the same shade as Annabeth's dress), Delilah hit him behind the head.
- You two look great – she said hugging Annabeth.
During the night, the couple and their friends had fun, and by the time the king and queen of the ball were to be announced, Percy had almost forgotten about the imminent ascension.
The announcer was the student council's president and he said:
- Ladies and gentlemen, you have voted, and now it's time to crown the king and queen of the ball, who will conduct the first dance.
Everyone cheered.
- As a tradition, we will first announce the queen – he opened the envelope – the queen of the prom ball is... - he made some suspense – ANNABETH CHASE!
It wasn't a surprise for anyone but Alia's friends (she was the leader of the cheerleaders and Joseph's girlfriend, even if Percy had the impression that she just dated him because her "friends" pressures her to it), but the girl didn't seemed to mind. Everyone cheered as Annabeth got in the stage.
The announcer continued:
- And the king of the ball is... - mare one dramatic pause – PERCY JACKSON!
More cheers, this time the only one that seemed surprised was Joshua and his friends.
While going in the stage to be with his girlfriend, Percy felt something rumble in his chest with applauses, he ignored it and gave Annabeth a peck in her lips.
Everyone went crazy at it.
The two were crowned (the feeling on his chest got bigger) and started the valse.
While they danced, Annabeth said:
- You got better at this since the first time we danced together, remember?
- How could I forget? You were kidnapped that night... - Percy replied.
- I'm talking about the dance, Seaweed brain, not what came after – Annebeth said, rolling her eyes.
- I remember that I didn't know who to invite to dance and you said "me, seaweed brain" and then I spent the whole dance trying not to step on your feet – he makes her twirl – the second dance was more interesting... I... I was going to confess to you before, but your mom gave me an ultimatum and made me lose my courage. But, for me, the song was full of hope.
- Damn it – mutters Annabeth – I didn1t knew that you were going to confess, and my mom got in the way. But, for me, the song was full of hope too...
Neither of them realized that the dance floor was now full of couples. The two kissed and stopped dancing.
During the rest of the night, the rumble in Percy's chest got bigger and he warned Annabeth that what could have been happening.
They tried to act normal, and finally, at the end of the party, Percy realized that it wouldn't take too long for him to feel something shattering in his chest, so he and Annabeth said their goodbyes and got out of the ball.
Right on time.
As soon as they were alone, the shattering sensation came, and Percy fell with a strangled scream. Poseidon showed up before he could even touch the ground and disappeared with his son in the blink of an eye.
Amphitrite showed up right after, hugging Annabeth and taking her home (the car was also teleported) so they could give Sally and Paul the news.
They wouldn't see Percy for around three months, with him getting used to his domains and learning to control his true form.
One month after Percy's ascension, Annabeth felt the shattering in her chest and Athena picked her up.
When they returned, they weren't demigods anymore. They were:
Perseus, god of Liquid and Aqueous substances, Riptides, Aquatic life, swordsmanship, friendship, loyalty, Homemade food, protector of demigods, protector of victims of domestic abuse. Patron of children.
Annabeth, goddess of, protection, cuuning, Cardinal Moral Virtue (inherited of her grandmother, Athena's mom, that had been swallowed by Zeus when pregnant), Architecture, war of subversion, espionage and guerrilla, ambition. Protector of children that have run away from home.
