"The sports festival is a yearly event containing a variety of sporting events. Each student may only be assigned to one of the four categories of participation." The board displayed four categories, as had been stated, and each of the events that were within their bubble. "The list of events is as follows. It's quite extensive but is divided up into Endurance, Strength, Technique, and Mixed. As you can see, some events are also listed more than once."

Each of the four categories had a color assigned. Orange for Endurance, red for Strength, and blue for Technique. The Mixed category contained each of the colors in even thirds.

Mikuri raised her hand. "What is the category of 'Mixed'?"
"Any student in any category can participate in the events within the mixed category. There will also be a mandatory assignment of three students into the mixed category with no more and no less. They may participate in any event of their choosing." Akiyama-sensei continued his explanation of the rules. "There is no limit to how many students can be assigned to each category, but there is a mandatory rule that each category, with the exemption of 'Mixed', must have at least two participants with the two being separate genders. This does not mean that they have to participate in every event within the category, and there is no set minimum requirement for how many students must participate in each event unless it is a group event. Take volleyball for example. You can choose to refrain from participating altogether as a class, or you can have a three person group sign up. Of course, if only three people sign up, you would win by default, but that's incredibly unlikely given how competitive the festival is. Similarly, there is a maximum." As some students frantically took notes, Akiyama-sensei didn't leave the list of events up for long. "The event list and schedule will be emailed out to everyone at the end of the day. Don't hurt your hands with unnecessary information."

Mikuri raised her hand. "Can we know the maximum number of participants now?"
"No. You may find out on the day of. Some slots may fill up quickly as well since you must sign up during the specified sign up window. Until that moment, you should stand-by at your category's tent. The class tent is also available for use."

As he progressed to the next slide, he began an explanation of what each category entailed. "Endurance is a measure of an individual's stamina. Events within this category include a five kilometer run, a one kilometer run, 4 by 100 meter relay, and one kilometer cycling. The endurance swimming event will be held within the school's pool facility and will also be a part of the strength category."

He continued to the strength category. "In this case, Strength is mixed in with 'Agility' and is essentially a test of the limits of raw strength, as the name suggests." He read out the events with a few overlapping in other categories and continued onto the next. "Technique consists of events that rely on hand-eye coordination and certain skills unique to their respective sports." He once again proceeded. The mixed category was very short with only four categories. "Mixed is sports that are combinations of multiple abilities. This doesn't mean that those in other categories do not overlap, but they were the four that the school decided on based on a variety of reasons."

"Reasons like what?" Hamada asked with uncertainty.
"I am not entirely sure myself. I think they're rather random considering that sports like basketball were isolated to one category and volleyball was put into mixed, but perhaps they were just the sports that they wanted more students to participate in. I'm sure there's more than an arbitrary reason behind it." He continued the final bit of his explanation. "For certain sports, there are separate competitions for girls and boys. This will be indicated on the list you get in the email, but you can probably guess a lot of them yourselves."
