"I'm in love with you," a voice said from across the table. "I'll do whatever it takes to have you by my side. Whatever it takes." The room was dark, I couldn't see the persons face. Their voice was distorted. But as they spoke to me my body felt chills. I looked down trying to control my thoughts and when I looked back up he or she was holding Ruby by her neck. "I'll do anything," they said as they slit her throat and her body fell to the ground. I screamed for help as I ran towards her. But nobody came to her aid, they all just stood there watching. Dark figures just standing there watching me as I watched Ruby bleed out and saw the life leave her eyes.
"Help!" I screamed out and opened my eyes. I had fallen asleep in class. Everyone looked at me but not one single person asked if I was okay. "Ms. Blain please leave my classroom. I've tolerated enough of your falling asleep and I won't tolerate you disturbing my class," Mrs. Valantine scolded. I packed my things and rushed out.
As I was walking towards the school exit I couldn't stop thinking about Ruby. She has such an impact on me that I can not explain and its driving me crazy. Out of now where someone called out for me. Thinking that it was a teacher who has caught me trying to leave school I walked faster. "Medusa!" I heard and I stopped to turn around. It was Ace. "Well well. Trying to ditch school are we?" I was too ashamed and scared to answer so I looked at the floor. Truth is I've never ditched a day of my life. "You can't go through there I mean if you go through the front you're practically screaming I wanna get caught," we both chuckled. "Come on follow me."
"You must really trust people," Ace stated as we were walking towards the back of the school. "What do you mean?" I asked because since Kyle I can't even trust my shadow. "Both times I tell you to follow me. You do without even blinking. Like what if I was a murderer or a rapist," I laughed because he was right. "I don't know. You have this vibe where I feel like I can do anything with you." I admitted. We stared at each other for a bit when we heard someone yell at us to stop. We laughed and he helped me jump the fence. I landed on my feet I don't know how if I've never jumped a fence and seconds later Ace was by my side. The man kept screaming at us to stop and come back but we just laughed and ran to Ace's car.
"So rapist, where exactly are you taking me?" I joked with him. He smiled and kept driving. "My favorite place in the world." We kept driving, he played music on the radio. We jammed out to some Pandora and rapped to some J. Cole. We reached the top of a mountain and he stopped the car. He looked over at me with a smile. "Come on Medusa." He said hopping out the car. "Medusa?" I followed.
He walked towards the edge of the mountain and sat down. I followed and I could see why it was his favorite place. The mountain was so high that the view it had of the ocean left you speechless and relaxed. It was one of those sites where you just sit and think about life. "My mom committed suicide when I was 8. My dad had ran out on us and she couldn't bare it," Ace spoke breaking the silence.
"My dad died out in combat. It took such a toll on my mom she ended up leaving. I was 9, my brother Chandler was 18. It wasn't until I was 15 that we found out she died of a drug induced heart attack." I never told anyone that. Just Kyle because he was always around and well Jackson knew because I grew up with him being my next door neighbor.
"Ruby doesn't understand. She's always had it all. The perfect life. 2 loving living parents. Food on the table. A roof over her head. She thinks the world is hers and she can have whatever she wants," Ace says looking over at me. "But she wrecks the most perfect things," he was staring into my eyes. "Don't let her ruin you."
After pouring our hearts out about our parents for about 4 hours he finally took me home. We were sitting in his car outside my house. "Look Ruby can be a great person but she can also be the worst. I know you just came out of a horrible relationship but it seems like she really likes you." He didn't even look at me while he said this, he stared down at his hands. "Call me if you ever need anything," he added while handing me a paper with his number. "Thanks," I gave him a smile and climbed out of the car. As I watched him drive off I felt someone watching me. I turned around to find Jackson and Ruby on Jacksons porch staring me down.
