Caelus Vance

The stairs led to a grand doorway lined with engravings in a language I didn't understand. I'm assuming it was ancient Greek because of the lettering. We both walked through the entrance. It opened into a large hall with throne-like chairs that formed a large circle around the room. I looked around in awe. Everything looked like Greek architecture, but instead of being run down and in ruins, it was smooth and clean, almost as if it had only just been built.

"Wait here." I did as she asked and stayed where I was until she returned. As I stood there, I realised there were twelve thrones and then a large group of benches made of marble opposite the biggest thrones. The two thrones in the middle stood about an inch taller than the others, and they had gold lining their bases and outlines. They looked like thrones fit for royalty, and I felt a sensation of power from being in the same room as them.

Julia came towards me again, and two other teenagers were walking behind her. "This is him. C.V. Caelus Vance." I recognised the other two from yesterday. They were with Julia when I first saw her. I finally came back to reality and realised how insane this all was. I had just followed a complete stranger into a hidden underground base of some kind.

"Who are you people? What is this place? Am I gonna die?" Questions filled my mind, and I needed to know what was going on. The panic finally struck, and I began to really regret my decision to follow Julia down here. I had no way of knowing if that was her real name. This was completely absurd, and no one even knew I was down here.

"My name is Mary. Mary Mercer. We will answer all of your questions shortly." I looked at the guy standing next to her.

"Aaron Hunt." He smiled awkwardly, but Mary then gained my attention again.

"Let's take a walk, Mr Vance."

"Oh, just call me Caelus or Cae... I don't mind."

"Right, Caelus." She continued speaking as we walked around the underground temple, which, as it turned out, was bigger than just a hall. "I know you must have many questions, but first, we must show you something. Your reaction will determine what we tell you."

I didn't have much time to ask questions because she instantly took me to a storage room filled with wooden boxes and crates. She reached into a wooden box lined with gold, which, now that I think about it, was quite a weird combination, and pulled out a glass case. Inside the glass case was a thin golden chain. "A necklace?" I would've burst out laughing if the sudden glow of the chain hadn't startled me.

Mary took the chain from the case and told me to hold it, so I did. I held the chain for a few seconds, and nothing happened. But before I could speak, the chain straightened itself out and formed a long, solid gold, thunderbolt-shaped staff.

I almost dropped it in shock, but I felt a strange wave of electricity flow through my body, causing me to hold it tighter. I was sure that my hair was fried. The electricity made me feel stronger than ever. The feeling was similar to what I had felt in my dream some nights ago. However, this time, it felt like pure power. I felt like my nerves were being charged or set on fire.

As the electricity stopped, I could see a huge smile appear on Mary's face. "Yes! Now picture the chain from before." I did as she said, and in a matter of seconds, the staff returned to its chain form. Upon closer inspection, a lightning bolt was engraved on one of the chain links.

Julia took the chain and put it around my neck. "It's yours now."

"What is it?" I looked at them all, and no one spoke. "Hello?" They all nodded at each other.

"Let's walk, Caelus." Julia retook my hand, and we walked around while she spoke.

"Well... where to start..." She looked around and decided to drag me to the marble thrones. "These are our thrones. We have these two." She gestured to the largest ones in the centre. She sat on the throne with a crown engraved at the top and then told me to sit on the throne next to her, which was engraved with a lightning bolt.
