Caelus Vance
After more and more planning with Arista, who also helped, we devised a plan that seemed foolproof. It turns out that S.H. is Sophia Hyde. She hasn't been paired yet, but she's being held near the Priene Temple of Athena in Turkey.
"Can this magical archway get us to Turkey?" This archway was amazing, but surely it had to have limits.
"It can take you anywhere. You just need to ask it. I can show you sometime." Julia smiled, and I saw Arista pretending to gag.
"Let's get a move on, shall we?" Arista continued to speak. "The Priene Temple of Athena, Turkey." We all walked through the archway and up the old stairs. We emerged in the middle of the temple, and to my surprise, it was empty. No tourists, no animals, no life.
"Where to now?" Aaron looked at Arista for an answer.
"I don't know. Isn't June your leader?"
"Her name is Julia." I glared at Arista, and before anyone could say anything else, a loud bang echoed over the hill. "Okay, that way", I pointed towards a dense wood next to the temple. We all began walking in the direction of the source of the noise.
As we got deeper and deeper into the darkness, I heard the others get out their artefacts. So I took off my chain, and it formed a thunderbolt with a slight golden glow. "Woah, it glows?" Mary looked at me, impressed.
"Umm, yeah, I guess it does" I smiled back at her, and then Arista gave a high-pitched scream. "What!? What is it!?" We all got ready for impact.
"I'm okay! I just walked into a spiderweb." Everyone sighed in relief and began to relax.
"You scared the life out of me." I took a deep breath and continued to look at Arista.
"Don't worry. I'm okay, really."
"I- I wasn't worrying." The truth was, I did worry about her for some reason.
We all continued walking. "Guys. There's quite a few spiderwebs now... like an unnatural amount." Aaron spoke whilst looking around.
"How can you see that?" I could barely make out what was in front of my nose.
"The Underworld isn't exactly bright. I can see in the dark." My jaw dropped. Aaron was actually cool? Shocking.
Before I had much time to comment on Aaron's incredible ability, Julia shouted. "SPIDER!" She jumped back as a giant spider landed on the floor. This spider was bigger than any spider I'd ever seen. It was hard to determine exactly how big it was, but I could tell it was at least the size of two buses.
I tried to piece everything together. Athena's sponsor, Turkey, giant spider... Arachne. A woman's voice appeared in my mind, and I instantly realised that it was Athena. I had no idea why she was helping me, but I greatly appreciated it. "It's Arachne! The girl Athena turned into a spider."
"Oh, wonderful. What's next? A Minotaur comes running in?"
"Mary, don't jinx it." I'd always been quite superstitious, so I wasn't about to take any chances.
"Honestly, the world would be better if Athena stopped turning people into monsters!" Mary seemed on edge and irritated every time Athena was mentioned. I know it's because of the gods, but it just felt like such deep-rooted hatred.
"Now is not the time to grieve for Poseidon's gorgon girlfriend, Mary. Now get ready, everyone." We all did as Julia said and got into position. However, I couldn't help but feel like that myth was slightly off. Zeus clearly disagreed with the modern version of events.
