"They're catching up to us, just as the past is..."

"Will you chill?" I hate that Harold has learned all these American lingos, he used to talk all sophisticated before. I shove some pasta on two plates before throwing the pot in the sink. It makes a loud banging noise and Harold sighs.

"Seriously mate, what is it? You've been like this for days. Weeks even."

Two weeks! Two weeks of that psychotic shellfish ignoring my existence. As if I was the one who told her she has to kiss me. Fuck all that, she doesn't even help me with the myth anymore. She doesn't respond to texts or calls. We only have one mythology class a week and she missed both in the last two weeks.

I asked Joe if lobster was sick but Joe said she is fine, just missed the class for personal reasons. Fucking coward. She believes she can avoid me forever. I'll let her. Why would I waste time, energy and mental peace on her? Nobody from that party has said shit to her or each other. I threatened them well. But this spineless salmonella still has problems.

"Eat your food." I tell Harold while he just stares at me. He sighs, aware that I won't say anything. If she refuses to touch the subject, I'm not at all desperate to mention her. She can die for all I care. There is a knock on our door and my sour mood worsens for some reason.

It's one in the morning. The only reason we are having dinner right now is because Harold forced me to eat something before bed and to cook for him as well. "Who would come here at this hour?"

"Whoever it is, is in for a straight up screaming match." I say before getting up and opening the door. Bright blue eyes look up at me with hope.

"How can I help you at this hour, Joe?" She sighs. "Can we stay here?" I blink at her. Probably didn't hear it right. "Pardon?"

"Can we stay here? For 2 days?" Harold comes to stand beside me. "Of course you can." This fucking lovesick idiot. "This isn't a shelter." I say. "Besides don't you have a room?"

She looks between the two of us before looking back at lobster. I just now see her, after weeks. She leans against the wall opposite our door, her eyes on the floor and nothing else. She is awfully quiet.

"We-" I look back at Joe who seems shaken up. "There was a break in, into our apartment. Anny was in the kitchen and luckily saw the intruder. She screamed and I called the police from my room. The security was quick to come but the intruder was not caught. The police is checking our apartment, changing the locks and everything.

They said it'll take two days and asked us to move into a hotel or with our friends. Neither of us can afford a hotel here and we don't know anyone besides you two. So please can we stay here over the weekend? We will leave on Monday. And I can cook for everyone. All the meals. We can even clean your apartment."

We are not barbarians to make these two work for staying here as payment.

Harold reaches out to hold Joe's hand and pulls her inside the apartment. "Of course you can stay here. Shortcake? Come inside. Come on." Ananya looks up from the ground and walks inside, once again without a word. She is either too shaken up or she has lost her voice.
