The Concerned Old Lady

It was two weeks ago that Henry had told Ines about this marriage proposal. Since that day, when Henry had proposed Adele's name, Ines had been full of worries for her daughter.

Though she had suggested Ariel's name to Henry, she knew that if Henry couldn't find Ariel then Adele would need to marry that man.

Henry must have been promised a lot of benefits for him to be so hell-bent on having relations with this family.

Now that Ariel was found out and she even agreed to marry, Ines felt light after many days.

"The day you will marry, I will send my people to start the treatment the same day."

She promised Ariel. It was true that she didn't like Ariel at all. She was still angry at the way Ariel insulted her but Ines was genuine about the promise she made.

Or perhaps she could sense that if she tried to step back from her promise, Ariel could create enough troubles for her. Nyla already told how Ariel created a scene outside.

This was Ines' idea so she must make sure that everything go fine otherwise Henry would blame her.

It was good that she got to talk to Ariel and it was she who convinced her. Ines thought now.

Ariel nodded her head and said

"I will leave then."

Ines's eyes widened slightly with panic and she immediately held Ariel's shoulder making Ariel first look at her and then at her hand.

Seeing this, Ines took back her hand quickly. But she asked the next moment.

"Where are you going?"

Ariel frowned as she answered
"Going back to my home."

If Ines was expecting her to stay there until marriage then she was dreaming. She would never stay in this mansion.

But Ariel did understand why Ines looked so panicked. It was about her daughter after all. So she said coolly.

"Just tell me whenever I need to appear, I will come at the required place and time."

Ines didn't look convinced but she knew that forcing Ariel now could spoil things. So she nodded her head after thinking for some time.

Anyways, she will keep one or two men around Ariel to spy on her so that the latter won't be able to run away.

"Alright. Marriage is three days later. I will send you the dress by evening."

Ariel merely nodded her head and without waiting for Ines to continue, she started walking towards the gates.

As Ariel stepped out of the huge Iron gates of Mintz Mansion, a car suddenly appeared in her sight. From the slightly open windows of the car, Ariel had a glance at the person sitting inside the person.

She stopped walking immediately.
Her eyes which were indifferent until now suddenly turned cold. Her fingers clenched tightly to form fists.

From the gaps between iron gates, she saw a guard stepping forward to open the door of the car and then the man stepped out.

It was none other than her father, Henry Mintz. He was in top ten businessman of Torris these days. People must be looking for ways to get even his five minutes.

To have such a father....Ariel should have felt a pride inside her heart yet all she felt on seeing this man was hatred.

One day....there must be one day when she will be able to do what she wanted. Ariel wondered.

But today was surely not that day.
Ariel took deep breaths to calm herself down.

Then she turned around and walked away from there.

She wished she would not have to come here again.

After leaving Mintz Mansion, Ariel went back to the slum to check upon her grandmother once. Aunt Stella had fortunately made breakfast for her grandmother and even gave her medicines.

Ariel made lunch for her grandmother.

Her grandmother was again asking her to change her job. Evidently, Aunt Stella told her that some people from work had come to look for Ariel.

The old lady felt simply angry that Ariel returned so late at night and yet in the early morning people from work called for her again.

"I am leaving, Grandma."

Seeing that she was again ready to leave, the old lady stopped speaking and asked

"Where? Are you going to work again?"

"Yes, Grandma."

Ariel said as she placed some water on the nearby table for the old lady. Fortunately the old lady could walk around without any difficulty. After Ariel left, she could at least get up and heat her food and have it.

Still, Ariel tried her best to reduce her work.

After placing the water, Ariel was about to turn around to pick up her bag and leave when grandma suddenly held her hand and asked with concern

"Ariel, is everything alright?"

Seeing worry in old lady's eyes, Ariel felt her heart filling up with warmth.

Now that she thought about it, she didn't know what will be the circumstances after her marriage.

Will she be able to meet her grandmother?

She should have talked about all this to Ines.

Also, she must tell her grandmother something so that she won't worry later on. As Ariel was thinking about all this, she was called out by the old lady again

"Ariel, is something wrong? Tell Grandma."

The old lady held Ariel's cheek and asked in a soft voice.

Ariel came out of her trance and shook her head. It's been days since she sat with her grandmother like this. It made her feel good.

This was the only person in the world who made her feel good and made this world liveable for her.

"Yes, Grandma. Why are you asking such a question?"

Ariel said gently. It was perhaps only the old lady who received such a treatment from Ariel. She could even scold Ariel and Ariel listened silently, never arguing back. Ariel even allowed the old lady to hit her.

"I don't know....you have been outside too long these days. Is it because of my treatment?"

The old lady blamed herself.
"Ariel, can you stop thinking about all this? I am already at my age. If not because of this disease, I will anyway die in two or three years."

"Grandma..."

Ariel frowned and tried to stop the old lady but the latter continued

"Ariel....I don't want you to stay here. I want you to get out of these slums. I want you to marry a man who will love you a lot and have children who will take care of you in your old age."

The old lady's eyes shone as she said all this.

She had always dreamt of doing all this for her Ariel. So what if Ariel was not related to her by blood.

She had raised her like hers own.

"Ariel, will you listen to Grandma?"

Ariel took a deep breath before she finally told the old lady.
