"I've already informed the company that you are not feeling well, so all Peat's schedules are canceled for the next two weeks." Fort said as soon as he arrived home and saw Tongrak sitting with Dao in the living room.
"I see. Thank you, Fort." Fort smiled at him which Tongrak returned. He leaned down to press a kiss on Dao's head.
"Are you having fun?" He asked.
"Yes Dada! Momma and I just finished watching another movie!"
"That's great!" Fort picked Dao up and raised him up to play with the boy.
What he didn't see was Tongrak's eyes watching their interaction.
'Mut would've been like that with Dao as well...' Tongrak thought.
It had been a week since he woke up in Peat's body, and in this reality. And with each passing day, he couldn't help but see his late husband in Fort.
Because if he were to differentiate the two, it would be the secondary gender which this reality clearly doesn't have.
He saw how Fort behaved towards Peat, and how he kept his distance when he knew that it was him and not Peat inside the latter's body.
He had seen the clips from the internet, eyes can't lie. Especially ones as expressive as Fort's.
"Fort?" He called one night when Dao finally slept.
"Yes Khun?" Fort looked up from where he was tucking Dao in.
"May I ask you something?" He hesitantly said.
"Of course. Should we go outside first?" Fort nodded and gestured to the bedroom door. Tongrak nodded his head and followed Fort to the kitchen.
They sat by the island counter, Fort had gotten them a glass of water each.
"What is it, Khun?"
"Why won't you confess to Peat?" Tongrak asked.
Fort was stunned after hearing the question.
He didn't know what to say or think.
He knew logically, he's not speaking with Peat but with Tongrak, but then it was technically Peat that was in front of him.
"W-What do you mean Khun?" Fort tried.
"Don't deny it Fort, I saw all the clips posted by both staff and fans alike. I may have been afraid of love before but after meeting my mate, I've been more sensitive to people who are in love. And I can see- I can feel how important Peat is to you... How much you love him..." Tongrak paused for a bit letting his words sink in to Fort.
"I know I am in no position to tell you this but, don't be afraid. I was too afraid of love that I almost lost the one that completed my soul. Mahasamut, my mate, my Alpha... I was so terrified when he left after I rejected him... I thought I was too late... But he still accepted me..." Tongrak wiped his tears. He could still feel the phantom fear of that time, then amplified by the actual loss of his mate...
"B-But Khun- P'Peat, he's too busy right now. He has many plans for his future. I don't want to be the one to distract him from his dreams..." Fort answered truthfully.
"Will you?" Tongrak asked.
"Will I what?"
"Will you be a distraction to him? Will you allow yourself to be the cause of him not reaching his dreams?" Fort immediately shook his head.
"Of course not! I would never do that!"
"Then, do you think Peat would allow himself to be distracted?"
"No, I know him P'Peat would always work hard for his dreams."
"There you go." Fort frowned at Tongrak's words.
"Huh? What do you mean, Khun?"
"The answer to your fear...You love Peat too much to be the one to cause his downfall. And Peat is strong enough to not be easily swayed and let his dreams crumble. It is natural to be afraid, but if you let fear stop you, then that's the only time that you will truly lose. Fight for it Fort. I know you can make Peat happy..." Tongrak smiled at the younger man before standing up and heading for his bedroom.
'I just hope I've already given him enough encouragement....'
Fort on the other hand didn't stand yet. He let everything Tongrak had said to sink in.
Is he really going to let fear get in the way?
It wasn't like him. As his Phi had said many times, 'FORT' is fearless, he faces challenges head on. So why is he letting his fear stop him from getting Peat's love?
Those were the questions that had kept running in his mind for the whole duration of the night and until the next few days to the point of him not getting enough sleep.
That was why he didn't see the motorcycle crossing the intersection.
Last thing he heard was the loud blaring of horns.
The loud crash caused by the car that swerved to the side and hitting a barrier resounded through the silence of the night road. The loud blaring of its horn had drowned the sound coming from a smartphone that had been thrown to the car's floor.
Concerned people immediately called for an ambulance as they tried to look into the car.
With all the flurry of movements and the noise from both panicked and curious onlookers, further drowned the ringtone from the continuously ringing device.
~~~~~~
Mahasmut groaned. He was slowly getting into consciousness.
The last thing he remembered was their boat getting hit by a particularly strong current and in the process he got thrown into the sea.
He could still remember how the darkness of the sea engulfed him, and he knew from experience that getting back up to the boat is impossible with how strong the currents are and with how dark the sea was.
He tried his best to stay afloat, but he knew it was only a matter of moments before his body gave in...
'I'm sorry Rak... Please take care of our little Starlight... Tongrak... Saengdao...'
Those were his last thoughts before he woke up.
Mahasamut looked beside him when he felt someone holding his hand.
"Rak?"
