I was in a dark room, the air was charged with a tension that could be cut with a knife. Held in a cell that looks directly at what seems to be the central room, many computers monitoring meaningless graphs and numbers, random dates, indistinct destinations. Several people whose faces I could not see well in the place only illuminated by those screens were anxious about what was shown behind intense beeps revealing a paper. The sound of a telephone echoed in the place, after intense ringing one of them raised his head. A minute of silence, he did not answer anything, he just left it as it was.
I don't think that action was for nothing because just when the call ended they surrounded me. I was trying to be strong and keep them from seeing me tremble, even if I couldn't stop my heart from beating with fear. One of the mysterious men came closer to touch me, I closed my eyes, squeezing them tightly when a dull sound made me open them again to see that he had suddenly fallen on one knee; looking in his direction I saw Geomar gagged on the ground, who had hit him so that he wouldn't come so close to me. Seeing him hurt and suffering hit my chest with stabbing pain.
Another of those present hit Geomar in the stomach and a pitiful moan was muffled by the gag. Despite the pain that the bullet in his leg must have caused him, he fought with every fiber of his being. My hair was pulled back so I took my eyes off him to focus on the face in front of me.
"We've verified that she has the time link," he said in a tired, raspy voice. "The lord will be pleased when we deliver her."
—We must verify that it is also the container— the voice was now that of a girl. —Let's take her and that's it. We must hurry before they find out.
Time link? Who are they? I wanted to ask so many questions and as if hearing my silent curiosity the girl bends down to my height and grabs the end of the tape, pulling it off forcefully. I let out a moan, my cheeks and mouth burning, they are probably swollen and red.
—Speak, these could be your last words. —he threatened.
— What do you want? If you want money, my father can give you whatever you want, I...
"We don't care," said the man who was hurting Geomar . "We want the time link you possess and that's it, there's nothing else we want from a capricious person like you."
— I'll give them to you! I don't know what that is, but I'll give them to you if you let us go.
At this point every word trembled on my lips, tears threatened to escape. I didn't want to be here, I wanted them to let Geomar go .
—You don't understand— the man pulled my hair even harder, roughly moving my head back, feeling pain in my neck. —It's not something you can give us so lightly. Only the chosen ones of that god possess the powers of time, it's not something that can be modified with science.
He paused, thinking. His fingers moved, tracing the line of my chin and then pointing to one of the screens where other cells were visible, in them you could see from children to adults of different ages and complexions. Another of those present activated the microphone, letting the crying, the agonizing screams, the sound of the creaking bars and the fear of someone being dragged by the people very close to mine be heard through the speakers in the room. I heard a kick followed by Geomar 's moan . I couldn't turn around or look away from that terrifying look, I closed my eyes only to feel a slap followed by the metallic taste of blood in my mouth.
—Don't do that again— he let go of my hair to wipe the blood from my broken lips with his fingers. —You are not like those people, you are the personification of perfection, the vessel that will house that divinity. They, on the other hand, will be the world's sample of the new science, adequate subjects, without fear. People reformed to obey.
