Somewhere Over The Rainbow

The Poppy Field

     The Wicked Witch laughed as she watched the group skipping along the yellow brick road in her crystal ball. Her captain of the flying monkeys, Nikko, was with her, watching the group while waiting for orders.

     "So, you won't take warning, eh? All the worse for you, then. I'll take care of you two now instead of later!" she said. She went to a table that had an hourglass with red sand in it, and prepared a potion in a cup. "When I gain those ruby slippers, my power will be the greatest in Oz!" She mixed up the potion and went back to her crystal ball, which was now glowing a dim purple. "And now, my beauties, something with poison in it, I think. With poison in it. But attractive to the eye and soothing to the smell!" Smoke started to come out of the cup as she waved her hand over the crystal ball, and a poppy field started to show in it. "Poppies. Poppies! Poppies will put them to sleep. Sleep. . . Now they'll sleep."

     Rhianna, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Toto made it out of the forest. In front of them was a poppy field, but beyond that was the very place that filled their hearts with hope and joy!

     "There's Emerald City!" Rhianna cried out.

     Emerald City definitely lived up to its name. From afar, it looked like a castle consisting of tall and small towers made of emerald. It had to be the most beautiful place any of them had ever seen.

     "Oh, we're almost there! At last! At last!" Dorothy cheered. "It's beautiful, isn't it? Just like I knew it would be."

     "He really must be a wonderful wizard to live in a city like that," Rhianna said.

     "Well, come on then, what are we waiting for?" Cowardly Lion asked, excited.

"Nothing! Let's hurry!" Scarecrow answered, and they started running through the poppy field.

"Yes, let's run!" Dorothy said.

They all ran as fast as they could. However, a couple seconds later, Rhianna, Dorothy, and Toto began to feel tired for some reason. Sure, they've gone on quite a journey, but they were feeling wide awake the whole time. Why were they feeling tired all of a sudden?

"Come on! Come on!" Scarecrow called back to them.

"Hurry! Hurry!" Tin Man called back to them.

Cowardly Lion was starting to feel tired as well, but he managed to catch up with Scarecrow and Tin Man. Rhianna, Dorothy, and Toto felt their eyelids getting heavy. What was happening to them? Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion stopped on a little hill.

"Look at the scenery. It's wonderful! Emerald City!" Scarecrow said.

Rhianna, Dorothy, and Toto finally caught up with the boys, but they were feeling very sleepy by the time.

"What's happening? What is it?" Dorothy questioned, wondering why she was suddenly feeling so tired. "I can't run anymore."

"Me neither. I'm so sleepy," Rhianna mumbled, her vision slowly getting blurry as she struggled to stay awake.

"Here, give us your hands and we'll pull you along," Scarecrow offered her, taking her hand and starting to pull her along.

"Oh, no, please. I have to rest for just a minute," Rhianna protested, and she lied down on the ground, the fog of sleep quickly clouding her mind.

     "Toto. Where's Toto?" Dorothy mumbled.

     Poor little Toto had already fallen asleep, and Dorothy was quick to join him and Rhianna.
