Dorothy Gale ran down the road to get to her farm with a bundle of books in her hand, her dog Toto running after her. She was a young girl with blue eyes and brown hair that was braided into pigtails with red hair ties, and she wore a light blue gingham short-sleeved shirt under a blue dress and brown-and-blue boots. She kept looking behind her to see if she was being followed, and after a moment, she knelt down to talk to Toto. He was a small brown Cairn Terrier that wore a green collar.

"She isn't coming yet, Toto. Did she hurt you?" Dorothy asked as she checked Toto for any injuries, and then held him close to her. "She tried to, didn't she?" She set him down. "Come on. We'll go tell Uncle Henry and Auntie Em. Come on, Toto."

The two made it back to the farm, and they ran up to Emily and Henry, who were taking chicks out of a broken incubator.

"Aunt Em! Aunt Em!" Dorothy called out as she ran up to her aunt and uncle. "Aunt Em, just listen to what Miss Gulch did to Toto!"

"Dorothy, please. We're trying to count," Emily told her.

"Oh, but, Aunt Em, she hit him over the—" Dorothy tried to say.

"Don't bother us now, honey. This old incubator's gone bad and we're likely to lose a lot of our chicks," Henry interrupted.

"Oh, the poor little things," Dorothy said as she took a chick out of the incubator. "Oh, but, Aunt Em, Miss Gulch hit Toto right over the back with a rake just because she says he gets in her garden and chases her nasty old cat every day!"

"Dorothy, please," Emily said after taking the chick from Dorothy and putting it in a crate with a chicken and some more chicks. She then went back to the incubator to collect more chicks with Henry.

"Oh, but he doesn't do it every day! Just once or twice a week," Dorothy explained, going after her aunt. "And he can't catch her old cat anyway. And now she says she's gonna get the sheriff and—"

"Dorothy. Dorothy, we're busy," Emily interrupted her.

Seeing that her guardians wouldn't listen to her, Dorothy gave up. "Oh, all right," she mumbled, and walked away.

Two women who appeared to be in their early twenties walked up to the farm. They had just finished their work for the day, but they knew Emily and Henry would probably need their help with the farm. These two women were Rhianna Gale, Dorothy's older sister, and Nevaeh Ohlemacher, Rhianna's best friend.

Rhianna had hazel eyes and long curly brown hair. Even though her hair always looked messy, she still looked very beautiful. She wore a white shirt with flower designs, a red knee-length skirt with white flower designs on it, and white sandals.
