MAXWELL
"Happy 18th Birthday, Max!" Luna Vicki smiled with joy and pride in her eyes as her oldest son emerged from his room. She immediately swept Maxwell into a big hug, causing the young man to flush with embarrassment, though the smile on his face indicated he didn't actually mind so much.
"Thanks, mom." He said, letting her hug him tightly for a while more before releasing him and patting her shoulder.
"You can open your presents later tonight at your birthday party, but for now I think you have something more urgent in mind, am I correct?" His mother grinned at him before heading off. "Good luck, by the way!"
Maxwell chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck; of course she saw right through him. That, and he could feel Maverick already jumping around excitedly. If he hadn't been anticipating this day, then his wolf definitely had been.
"Thanks mom. I promise I'll be back by seven for the party!"
Maxwell headed down the steps and slid into his chair at the dining table. Wanting to just get this over with and head out, he took two slices of bread and covered one side in peach marmalade before eating.
"Someone's excited." His younger brother Xavier teased, giving him a suggestive grin while dipping a Lotus Biscoff cookie into a glass of milk.
"You'll understand once your eighteenth birthday arrives." Maxwell replied with a grin.
"I won't accept any mate unless it's Lacey Reeves." Xavier stated stubbornly, a nevertheless dreamy look coming to his eyes. "She and I are perfect for each other, I know it."
Lacey Reeves was supposed to be the most popular girl in Xavier's year at high school, and his fourteen year old brother had apparently been smitten with her since they worked on a project together.
"That's up to the Moon Goddess to decide." Maxwell responded, turning his attention back to his sandwich. Perhaps Xavier would be adamant about Lacey now, but once he met his fated mate it would be a different story.
