Narrator's Pov
Lars woke up excited because it would be his 17th birthday. He got out of bed excitedly and looked at the calendar to make sure that it was really his birthday. He frowned and remembered that yes, it was April 3, 2023, his birthday.
Lars had set an alarm to ring on his birthday. The alarm on his cell phone started ringing, making the device vibrate non-stop. Lars, who was in the hallway, looked towards his room and saw that his cell phone was almost falling off the bed from the vibration.
Lars quickly ran into his room and quickly grabbed the device that was almost falling off the edge of the bed.
- Phew! - Lars said, grabbing the device that was vibrating non-stop.
Lars leaned his back on the bed and unlocked the device. There was an image of a unicorn flying on the screen of the device while it vibrated. Lars turned off the alarm.
Lars was startled when he looked at the bedroom door and saw his father wearing blue shorts and looking sleepy looking at him.
- What are you doing? What's that noise? - Lars' father asked yawning and with his eyes red from sleep.
- I set an alarm on my phone, today is my birthday - Lars said and his father narrowed his eyes and stared at him as if it didn't matter at all.
- Aren't you going to wish me a happy birthday? - Lars asked getting up from the floor and opening both his arms and going towards his father.
- I'm going to sleep, I still have two hours of sleep - Lars' father said turning his back to his son.
Lars lowered his arms and lowered his ears after his father ignored the fact that today was his birthday.
- Go to sleep, it's still too early - Lars' father said leaving him in his room alone.
Lars opened the curtain a little and looked out his bedroom window. It was still a little dark outside. The sun hadn't risen yet, but it was already possible to see some orange clouds. Lars closed the curtain and lay down on his bed again. He wrapped himself in his soft navy blue blanket and fell asleep.
Two hours later, Lars woke up, almost jumping out of bed after feeling someone pull the blanket he had covered himself in abruptly.
"Wake up! Dad asked me to wake you up," Lars' brother said.
Lars stretched his arms and legs and yawned. Then he put on his soft pink shoes and went to the bathroom, washed his face and headed towards the stairs.
Lars smelled pancakes with honey as he approached the stairs. He felt a little excited. He thought that maybe his parents had prepared his favorite food for him on his birthday.
Lars arrived in the kitchen and saw only crumbs from the pancake and the plate with the bottom dirty with honey.
- Mom, did you make pancakes for me? - Lars asked, looking at his mother who was washing the dirty coffee cups.
- No, I made them for your father and brother - she said, not even turning to look at his face.
- But today was my birthday, mother - Lars said and she completely ignored him.
Lars had to settle for coffee with milk and dry bread while he just smelled the pancakes with honey and looked at the crumbs that had been left on the plate.
- I know, I won't get any hugs or happy birthday - Lars said, putting his backpack on his back and walking out the door.
Lars' brother continued looking at something on his cell phone while completely ignoring his brother.
