Shivansh's heart skipped a beat as Kashi's body suddenly went limp in his arms. Her eyes fluttered closed, and her head slumped to the side. Panic surged through him, freezing his breath in his lungs.
"Kashi!" he cried out, his voice a mix of fear and desperation. He gently shook her, hoping to rouse her from the sudden unconsciousness, but she didn't respond.
The doctors and nurses immediately noticed the change and rushed to Kashi's side. "Get her to the ICU, now!" one of the doctors ordered, his voice calm yet urgent. The medical team swiftly moved into action, detaching the baby from Kashi's chest and placing her into a small bassinet.
" Hukum sa, we need to take her now." the nurse said, her voice firm but sympathetic as she placed a hand on his arm.
Shivansh was frozen in place, his eyes locked on Kashi's pale face. He felt a deep, gnawing fear rise in his chest.
" This wasn't supposed to happen. Everything was supposed to be okay now. They had their baby, their beautiful daughter. Kashi couldn't be in danger now. It wasn't fair." said Shivansh. " Hukum sa, please try to understand. " the nurse urged, snapping Shivansh out of his trance.
He nodded numbly, letting go of Kashi's hand as the medical team wheeled her out of the delivery room and down the hallway toward the intensive care unit.
His heart pounded with each step, his mind racing with every possible fear. What if she didn't wake up? What if something went wrong?
"Is she going to be alright?" he asked, his voice trembling as he followed the doctors down the hallway.
The doctor who had delivered their baby, Dr. Rao, looked back at him, his expression serious delivery was very sudden and unexpected.
Her body wasn't fully prepared for the labor, and the strain has caused her to lose consciousness. " The next few hours are critical. We need to monitor her closely and ensure she stabilizes." said the doctor.
Shivansh's world seemed to tilt on its axis. "What do you mean, critical? She was fine just a moment ago. She was holding our baby..." said Shivansh.
"I understand, Hukum sa. But childbirth is unpredictable. Sometimes the body reacts in ways we can't anticipate. We're going to do everything we can for her, but we need to act quickly." replied the doctor.
They reached the ICU, and Shivansh was forced to stop at the doors as the medical team wheeled Kashi inside. He watched helplessly as the doors swung closed behind them, leaving him standing alone in the hallway, his mind a whirlwind of fear and confusion.
Before he could even gather his thoughts, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor. He turned to see his family rushing toward him—Akshita, Bhairav, Anita, Dada Hukum, and Naina, their faces etched with worry and concern.
"Shivansh, what happened?" Akshita asked, her voice trembling as she reached out to him. Shivansh shook his head, trying to keep his composure.
"Kashi... she fainted after the delivery. The doctor said it was unexpected, and now she's in the ICU. They said the next few hours are critical." replied Shivansh.
Anita gasped, covering her mouth with her hand as tears welled up in her eyes. Bhairav placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, though his own face was pale with worry. "Beta, she's strong. She'll pull through this." he said, his voice steady but filled with concern.
Dada Hukum, normally a pillar of strength, looked shaken. "Shivansh, we're all here for you. Kashi is family, and we'll pray for her. She's a fighter." said Dada Hukum.
