The evening sun bathed the grand halls of the Ajmer palace in a warm, golden glow. The soft murmur of servants and the rustle of leaves outside the windows seemed almost muted, as if the entire palace held its breath in anticipation of the conversation that was about to unfold.
Digvijay ji sat in the grand hall, his posture straight but his mind troubled. The events of the past few days had been weighing heavily on him.
Kashi's behavior was increasingly strange, and though he wanted to believe she was still the same girl he had always known, there were too many inconsistencies to ignore. Shivansh's recent visit and his desire to remarry Kashi had complicated matters further.
He knew what he had to do, though it pained him. He needed to protect Kashi, even if it meant guiding her in a direction she might resist. With a heavy heart, he called for Kashi, requesting her presence in the hall.
Kashi arrived a few minutes later, her steps light and her demeanor as poised as always. But there was something in her eyes—an unfamiliar coldness, a sharpness that Digvijay ji couldn't quite place.
"You called for me, Kaka?" Kashi asked, her voice soft yet distant. Digvijay ji forced a smile, motioning for her to sit beside him on the plush sofa. "Yes, beta. There's something important I need to discuss with you." said Digvijay ji.
Kashi sat down, her eyes fixed on Digvijay ji, curiosity mingled with the slightest hint of wariness. "What is it, Kaka? You look worried." said Kashi.
Digvijay ji took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. "Kashi, you know how much I care for you. You've always been like a daughter to me, and your happiness means the world to me."
Kashi smiled faintly, though it didn't reach her eyes. "I know, Kaka. You've always been there for me." said Kashi.
"That's why I want to talk to you about something very serious, something that concerns your future. Shivansh came to me recently. He... he wants to marry you again, Kashi." said Digvijay ji.
Kashi's expression didn't change immediately, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes—perhaps confusion, perhaps irritation. She didn't respond right away, and Digvijay ji watched her carefully, waiting for her reaction.
After a long pause, Kashi finally spoke. "Kaka, I... I'm engaged to Yuvraj. I can't marry Shivansh, or anyone else, for that matter." said Kashi.
Digvijay ji had expected this. He had prepared himself for this moment, knowing it would be difficult. But he also knew that what he was about to say would change everything.
"Kashi, there's something you don't know. Yuvraj... Yuvraj broke off the engagement." said Digvijay ji.
Kashi's eyes widened, and for the first time in days, her composed façade cracked. "What? That's not possible, Kaka. He... he would never do that." said Kashi.
Digvijay ji looked at her with deep empathy, reaching out to take her hand in his. "I'm so sorry, beta. But it's true. Yuvraj has fallen in love with someone else, and he has decided to be with her. He didn't want to hurt you, so he didn't tell you directly." said Digvijay ji.
Kashi's face went pale, her eyes searching Digvijay ji's for some hint that this was all a terrible mistake, a misunderstanding. But his expression was sincere, and she knew that Digvijay ji would never lie to her—not unless he truly believed it was for her own good.
For a moment, Kashi was silent, her mind racing. She had been so sure of Yuvraj, so certain of their future together. And now, in the span of a few seconds, that certainty had crumbled into nothingness.
