At dawn, I lay in my bed, my gaze fixed on the large windows as I watched the rain softly pour against them. The quiet of the morning was interrupted by a knock at the door, and Lian Jun entered, holding a tray with a note, tea, and the enticing aroma of herbs and citrus filling the air. He began to pour a cup, an action that should have been scheduled for an hour later.
As I sat up slowly, smoothing down my garment, I noticed the familiar melody that slipped from Lian's lips as he hummed with a gentle smile. It was comforting, a pleasant start to the day that promised to be demanding.
"Your Majesty—I've been told to come earlier," Lian said as he looked up, a hint of apology in his tone for the unexpected disruption.
I nodded, appreciating his diligence. "It seems today starts ahead of schedule. What brings you so early?" I inquired, taking the cup he offered. The scent of the tea was refreshing, a perfect blend to stimulate the senses on such a dreary morning.
"Sir, there is an urgent council meeting arranged after breakfast. They believe it's imperative you are briefed beforehand," Lian informed me, his voice steady, reflecting the gravity of the upcoming discussions.
I took a sip of the tea, letting its warmth seep through me, fortifying me for the challenges ahead. "Thank you, Lian. This will give me ample time to prepare. Do we know the focus of this meeting?" I asked, my mind already turning towards the array of possibilities that could demand such early attention.
"It concerns new diplomatic endeavors, Your Majesty. The council wishes to discuss the strategic details with you before any decisions are made," Lian responded, his posture rigid with the seriousness of the subject.
"Very well," I said, placing the cup back on the tray. "Please inform the council that I will be ready shortly. And, Lian," I paused, giving him a reassuring nod, "thank you for the early notice."
As Lian Jun glided across the room with quiet urgency, his posture erect yet subtly strained under the weight of the moment, he announced, "I have been instructed to help you get dressed—the council awaits, prepared to delay as necessary." He tenderly lifted my rich red ceremonial robes from their stand, the fabric catching the morning light and glowing with a regal intensity.
