Evan rushed into the room, the door sent flying into the wall with a bang.

"What happened? Are you okay?" He asked, clearly unnerved by my scream.

"I... I just had a nightmare, it's nothing" I mumbled, embarrased

"I'll make us some coffee, help is both recover from the startle" He said, offering a smile

I followed Evan, placing myself on a stool at the kitchen island. He brewed a pot of coffee, the aroma filling the room. We sat, sipping our drinks in the silence, until he broke it.

"So, do you want to talk about the nightmare?" He asked tentatively as I stared at him, unsure how to respond

"Maybe it'll give you some clues into who you are" he added

After thinking for a moment, I agreed. I shared every detail I could remember, getting emotional at the end. I stood up and left for the bathroom to collect myself. Staring in the mirror I tried to regain my composure when I felt itchy. I reached to my back to scratch but stopped when I felt something soft. I took off my shirt and turned around to see feathers poking through my skin.

After hastily throwing my shirt back on and running to my room I sat on the bed, hyperventilating. Evan knocked on the door before entering. After seeing the state I was in, he reached out to offer me a hug.

After several minutes of calming down, I took a breath and told Evan what I saw. He gently moved my shirt up to see my back and an sense of concern filled the air. His fingers grazed over the feathers, sending shockwaves across my skin.

I spent the rest of the day in my room, reading some of the books Evan had in his office. Before I knew it, I was drifting off to sleep once again.
