It had been nearly a week since I last saw Damien and not a single day had gone by where he wasn't on my mind.
My mind went back and forth on the idea of it all. I was so terrified, yet so flustered at the thought of him and the image of us together.
God, I was such an idiot though. I told him I just wanted to be friends, my mind thought that was the most logical way to go about it. I'm a human high school girl, he's a 190-year-old vampire. I wouldn't write him off entirely, I wanted nothing more than to have him in my life.
So, let's be friends, I said.
However, it was a cold and rainy Friday evening when my body decided to betray me.
My short suspension had finally ended and I was back at school acting casual as if I had not seen a horrific battle between two vampires over the weekend.
When it was finally lunch, I felt myself completely disassociating.
Damien, Damien, Damien.
Maria had been questioning me all damn day about where I disappeared off to on Saturday and I don't blame her for being pissed. I was shitty for ditching her. But, how do you exactly explain to someone that vampires are real and the sexy school janitor is one of them?
"Arden, you scared the shit out of me. Do you know how worried I was? I was worried all weekend and all this week, I was blowing up your phone and everything. You didn't even text back, what happened? I was convinced you were dead, I almost cried about it and everything." Maria nudges Dion with her elbow. "Right, Dion?"
He jolts and quickly turns towards the both of us, his mouth stuffed with cheeseburger.
"Wait, what?"
"Was I literally about to cry about Arden being missing the other day, yes or no?" Maria whines, clutching her imaginary pearls.
His eyes flick back and forth between us. "Uh, yeah," Dion mumbles through the cheeseburger.
"I'm sorry, Maria. I would've texted you but my phone got taken." I reach out and squeeze her hand with reassurance like a faithful friend would. I am the furthest thing from one.
"What, why?" Maria furrows her brows.
"My dad caught me sneaking back in through my window."
Lie. He didn't. However, he did take my phone because of my suspension. Which I also didn't tell Maria about.
