Chapter 10:

The weekend arrived with a refreshing promise of relaxation. Renjun had been looking forward to his planned movie marathon with a mix of excitement and nervousness. It wasn't just about watching movies; it was the opportunity to spend time with Haechan outside the usual school setting, away from the tensions and judgments he often faced.

Renjun had spent the morning preparing. He chose a comfortable outfit, opting for soft jeans and a hoodie. He wanted to feel relaxed, to enjoy the day without any stress or pretense. The movie marathon was to take place at Haechan's house, a mansion that Renjun had only seen from a distance until now. He was both intrigued and a bit intimidated by the idea.

When Renjun arrived at Haechan's house, he was struck by its grandeur. The mansion's elegant facade and sprawling grounds were impressive, though Renjun felt a twinge of anxiety about stepping into such an opulent environment. Haechan greeted him at the door with his usual charismatic smile, putting Renjun somewhat at ease.

"Hey, Renjun!" Haechan said, ushering him inside. "Come on in. I've got everything set up for our movie marathon."

The interior of the mansion was just as impressive as the exterior, with stylish furnishings and a cozy atmosphere. Haechan led Renjun to the living room, which had been transformed into a perfect movie-watching space. There was a large screen, a collection of DVDs neatly arranged, and an array of snacks and drinks laid out on a table.

"This looks amazing," Renjun said, admiring the setup.

Haechan grinned. "I thought you might like it. Grab some snacks and get comfortable. I'm going to start the first movie."

Renjun picked up a bowl of popcorn and settled onto the plush couch, his heart racing slightly as he awaited Haechan's presence. Haechan soon joined him, flopping down beside him with a relaxed sigh.

The first movie started, a lighthearted comedy that immediately made Renjun laugh. Haechan was attentive, occasionally glancing at Renjun to see his reactions. As the movie progressed, Haechan's playful side emerged. He made witty comments and shared amusing observations, making Renjun laugh even more.

Throughout the film, Renjun found himself relaxing, his earlier apprehensions fading away. Haechan's flirtatious remarks were balanced with genuine friendliness, and Renjun began to see another side of him-one that was caring and considerate.

During a particularly funny scene, Haechan nudged Renjun playfully. "You know, you have a really nice laugh. It's refreshing."

Renjun blushed slightly, glancing at Haechan. "Thanks. You're not too bad yourself. I didn't expect you to be so... funny."

Haechan chuckled. "What can I say? I like to keep things interesting. But seriously, I'm glad you're here. It's been nice getting to know you outside of school."

Renjun nodded, his gaze dropping to the popcorn in his lap. "Yeah, it's been nice for me too. I didn't realize how much I needed this."

As the evening wore on, they continued with a mix of romantic comedies and action films. They talked about their favorite movies, shared personal anecdotes, and even debated over which film was the best of the night. The ease between them grew, and Renjun began to feel more comfortable in Haechan's presence.

During a break between movies, Haechan suggested they take a walk around the mansion's garden. Renjun agreed, eager to continue their conversation in the fresh air. They stepped outside into the cool evening, the garden illuminated by soft lights and the scent of blooming flowers.

"This garden is beautiful," Renjun commented, looking around.

Haechan smiled. "It's one of my favorite spots. It's peaceful here. Sometimes I come out here just to think."

As they strolled along the garden path, Haechan's hand brushed against Renjun's, and he didn't pull away. Renjun's heart raced, a mix of nervousness and excitement flooding through him. Haechan seemed to sense his hesitation and glanced at him with a gentle smile.

"Renjun," Haechan began softly, "I know things have been complicated between us, but I really enjoy spending time with you. You're not just another person in my life. You matter to me."

Renjun looked at Haechan, his mind racing. The sincerity in Haechan's voice was undeniable, and it made Renjun's heart ache with a mix of hope and fear.

"I didn't think I'd ever feel this way," Renjun admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've been so focused on protecting myself that I didn't realize I was missing out on something... good."

Haechan stopped walking and turned to face Renjun, his expression earnest. "You don't have to protect yourself from me. I'm here because I want to be, not because I'm trying to play games. I care about you, Renjun."

The vulnerability in Haechan's eyes melted some of the barriers Renjun had carefully constructed around his heart. He took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his previous fears lifting.

"Maybe I'm ready to take a chance," Renjun said softly, his voice steady despite the fluttering in his chest. "Maybe I'm ready to see where this goes."

Haechan's eyes brightened, and he stepped closer, closing the distance between them. "I'm glad to hear that."

The moment felt charged with possibility, the night air seeming to hold its breath as they stood there. Haechan reached out and gently took Renjun's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver through Renjun, but it was a comforting one.

As they continued their walk through the garden, their conversation flowed easily, and the connection between them grew stronger. The movie marathon had started as a simple idea, but it had turned into something much more significant-a chance for both of them to explore their feelings and see where they might lead.

By the time Renjun left Haechan's house that night, he felt a renewed sense of hope. The evening had been filled with laughter, meaningful conversations, and a budding sense of something new and exciting. As he walked home, he couldn't help but smile, feeling the beginnings of something special taking root in his heart.

It was the start of a new chapter, one that promised to be filled with both challenges and moments of joy. And for the first time in a long while, Renjun felt ready to embrace whatever came next.
