Chapter 12:
The days following their kiss had been filled with a sense of exhilaration for Renjun and Haechan. Their secret relationship blossomed in the quiet moments they stole away from prying eyes. The only person who knew about their romance was Chenle, Renjun’s cousin, who had been supportive and kept their secret with unwavering loyalty.
However, the tranquility of their hidden romance was about to face a significant challenge.
One afternoon, as Renjun and Haechan walked down the hallway hand in hand, their fingers intertwined, they felt a sense of contentment. They had just shared a private, sweet moment in the courtyard, and the feeling of Haechan’s hand in his was grounding. They were lost in their own world when they suddenly came face-to-face with Jeno.
Jeno, who had been lurking nearby, his expression tense and guarded, blocked their path. His eyes flickered with a mix of confusion and irritation as he looked at Haechan and then at Renjun.
“What’s going on here?” Jeno demanded, his tone edged with annoyance. “I didn’t know you two were a thing.”
Haechan’s face hardened slightly, his protective instincts kicking in. “Jeno, he is mine. Stay out of this.”
Jeno’s eyes widened in surprise, and he stepped forward, pulling Renjun away from Haechan’s hand and positioning himself between them. “Since when? I don’t remember you guys being a couple.”
Renjun’s heart sank as he felt the sudden tension between Jeno and Haechan. He was torn between the two people who mattered most to him in different ways. He looked at Jeno, his expression conflicted, then at Haechan, who seemed unperturbed by Jeno’s hostility.
Without warning, Haechan stepped forward, his gaze locked onto Jeno’s. In a swift move, he pushed Jeno slightly aside, his actions filled with a mix of possessiveness and urgency. He then turned to Renjun, capturing his lips in a deep, claiming kiss. The kiss was intense, a silent declaration that Renjun’s lips were his and his alone.
The hallway fell silent as students watched in shock, their whispers turning into murmurs of surprise. Renjun’s eyes widened, but he melted into the kiss, the heat of Haechan’s lips against his own causing his heart to race. The kiss was fierce, a blend of desperation and love, as if Haechan was trying to convey all his feelings in that single moment.
Jeno stood frozen, his eyes dark with a mixture of jealousy and confusion. He had always been possessive of things he cared about, but seeing Haechan claim Renjun so publicly was a shock. The realization that he had developed deep feelings for Renjun—feelings that were perhaps more than just friendship—hit him like a ton of bricks. And seeing Haechan’s bold declaration made it clear that Renjun was no longer within his reach.
When Haechan finally pulled away, his breath mingling with Renjun’s, he gave Jeno a steely glare. “You should know by now, Jeno. Renjun and I are together, and that’s not something you can change.”
Jeno’s expression was a mixture of anger and hurt. He had known Haechan was a troublemaker, but this was a different level of confrontation. He looked at Renjun, whose face was flushed and eyes wide, and then back at Haechan, who was resolute in his stance.
“You really think you can just come in and claim him like that?” Jeno’s voice trembled with suppressed emotion. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Haechan’s gaze remained steady. “I’m showing him and everyone else that he’s important to me. I’m not going to let anyone come between us.”
Jeno’s fists clenched at his sides, but he took a deep breath, trying to maintain control. He realized that his feelings for Renjun had grown beyond mere friendship. His jealousy was not just about Haechan’s actions—it was a reflection of his own unacknowledged emotions.
“I… I didn’t realize,” Jeno muttered, more to himself than anyone else. He turned away, unable to face the reality of his own feelings. His footsteps echoed down the hallway as he walked away, leaving Haechan and Renjun alone in the aftermath of their confrontation.
Renjun turned to Haechan, his eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and apprehension. “Thank you for standing up for us. I know it must have been hard.”
Haechan pulled Renjun into a gentle embrace, his hand resting on the back of Renjun’s head. “I’d do it again in a heartbeat. You’re worth fighting for.”
Renjun’s heart swelled with emotion as he clung to Haechan, finding comfort in his presence. The kiss and the confrontation had made their relationship more real than ever. Despite the challenges they faced, Renjun felt a renewed sense of hope and determination to face whatever came next.
As they walked away from the hallway, hand in hand, they knew their journey would be filled with ups and downs. But with each other by their side, they were ready to face them together, their bond stronger than ever.
