Bangkit stared at his phone screen. There was no notification from Kabut. He had sent her a message since the day he left, but until now, she hadn't replied. Not only did she not reply, but she hadn't even read it. Yet, he saw Kabut active on Instagram several times. Was she still upset about the list? Bangkit couldn't figure out the answer. Understanding Kabut was harder than solving his clients' problems.
Speaking of clients, Bangkit was waiting for one to arrive. They were meeting at a fairly quiet restaurant because the client wasn't comfortable talking at home. Bangkit went over some potential evidence for the case involving his client.
"Sir," Abraham called.
"Hm?"
"Mrs. Kabut is back at the police station, sir."
Bangkit turned to look sharply at Abraham. His assistant hesitated to relay the information.
"How do you know?" Bangkit pressed.
"Ms. Diah ran into her at the police station while handling one of our clients in Jakarta. She said Mrs. Kabut hit someone again," Abraham explained.
"So, who's representing her? Kabut didn't call you?"
"No, sir. I was surprised she didn't call either. If I'm not mistaken, it was her uncle who came to handle things."
Bangkit rubbed his face roughly. Leaving Kabut alone was like doubling the trouble. He thought she would stay calm and not do anything that might lead to criminal charges. Kabut had been causing issues even when they were married. The only difference was that Bangkit used to handle things for her, but after the divorce, Kabut more often sought Abraham's help.
Kabut's tendency to stir up trouble was an open secret, earning her the nickname "Queen of Disaster." That title had stuck with her since middle school. With all the chaos she caused, there were rumors that Kabut had been arranged to marry Bangkit to lessen the burden on the Sastromidjo family and to have someone control her. In reality, Bangkit always ended up being Kabut's solution whenever she got into trouble. However, they were not arranged for that reason, but rather to increase both families' wealth.
"Which uncle?" Bangkit asked, half sighing in frustration.
"Mr. Bharat, sir."
"I'll call Diah first. Wait here."
Bangkit felt restless. Of course, something had to happen. He thought he could leave in peace, but now it seemed like he needed to bring Kabut along with him to keep an eye on her. He pulled out his phone and dialed speed number one to contact Kabut. Before he could call, Kabut's number flashed on the screen. Bangkit answered quickly.
"Hello?"
"Are you staying in Surabaya much longer? I'm leaving. Probably for about a month." Kabut's voice came through bluntly, without any preamble.
"A month? What for?" Bangkit was taken aback.
"A vacation. I need fresh air. I'm bored here. I'm calling so you don't report me missing to the police. I'm turning off my phone. Bye."
Bangkit didn't even have time to stop her. What on earth—leaving for a month? He tried calling back, but her phone was already out of reach. Frustrated, he clenched his fist.
After meeting his client, he decided he'd head home to see Kabut. He needed to talk to her.
❤❤
Kabut placed several client sketches into a pink folder. She wanted to go on a vacation and have some fun to clear her chaotic thoughts. She had already finished writing the long list of things she disliked about her marriage to Bangkit. Kabut exaggerated a few things and even made up some of her answers.
