3 am and the music hadn't died down .
3 am and people haven't stopped coming.
3 am and she is still on the verge of falling from her balcony.Looking at the view that she wakes up to everyday. Those green leafed trees that house an entire orchestra of birds who are always practising. Past that is the lake in all its glory, reflecting the moonlight and being the only thing one can see in the dark . She looked up at the sky that was jet black, with a light sprinkle of stars to keep the moon company. Then she looked down as if something pulled her to see it .
The drop. Steep almost guaranteeing freedom the second the body hits the concrete floor.
No more problems.
No more grief.
No more pain.
All it would take is one swift motion ."You should do it" a deep voice said.
She turned to face its possessor.
"Wh.. what?" She stuttered as she looked at her neighbour who was standing in his own balcony just a few feet from her. Despite the loud party he was having she could hear him clearly.
"You know what I'm talking about kavya, if you've got all your affairs in order and truly think there is nothing worth living for then do it, jump." He said, taking a long drag from his cigarette .
Kavya stared at him with pure disgust.
How did those words leave his tongue with such ease?
"You have no idea what you're saying right now" kavya said solemnly whilst trying to fight tears from leaving her brown eyes.He scoffed and shook his head.
" You underestimate me" he chuckled."You know nothing about me Arjun so why even bother making ignorant assumptions!" she yelled, hoping it would sting him as much as what he said stung her.
Arjun laughed, shook his head as he squashed the bud of his cigarette and went back into his apartment, leaving kavya to swim in her own frustration.
Kavya and Arjun were nothing more than friendly neighbors or so she thought. For the last 5 years they were always cordial with one and other the rare times they saw each other due to their busy schedules.
Arjun;usually polite. But this version of him was completely different, maybe it was the alcohol or whatever one consumes at parties that allows them to reach the ultimate state of numbness and Euphoria. Nevertheless the whole interaction did nothing to free her from her seemingly everlasting torment.
"Kavya?" A sleepy voice said from behind her. "Come back to bed darling" it said as kavya wiped her face in an attempt to erase any trace of dismality from it. It hugged her from behind and kissed her shoulder. "I'm...I'm coming Sid"she said softly.
Looking down one last time, bidding her plan of release farewell and with that stepped into her living room.
She couldn't do it, not while he's still here.
