Saturday morning and laying in bed was a breathing corpse. Not exactly but what else do you call someone who doesn't see the point in her existence?
Souless
Hollow
Dead girl walking
Breathing corpse.
Because that's what Kavya was now.
She got out of bed, brushed her teeth, took a deep breath and went outside."Good morning" said Sid enthusiastically. Kavya greeted him with a small smile as she poured the chai Sid made into her mug, she always took a long sip before doing anything.
"God, Daniel's party looks so drab" Sid said as he turned his phone towards his girlfriend to show pictures of Daniel and his friends at a club. "Hmm it sure does" kavya said, she stopped expressing what she really felt about things to him.
Not worth the useless back and forth, petty comments that would do even more damage to her self-esteem than whatever her mother would say . "I bet he didn't pay for anything, got all his loser friends to chip in" Sid said as he kept scrolling on his phone. "Isn't that what you also do?" Kavya muttered under breath while siping from her mug and reading the newspaper. "I'm sorry did you say something?" Sid asked as he rose from his device to actually look at her face.
"No, nothing" kavya said still reading an article that talked about Kareena Kapoor's latest pregnancy and how she has gained more weight this time than her last one, revolutionary things...
Well it was a good thing you didn't go right?" Her boyfriend said as he walked towards their room to change.
"Yep, always right babe" Kavya walked towards her balcony to admire the view or the bottom of it at least.
It looked different in the morning, the sun and the general positive atmosphere made it seem less threatening but then again everything seems less threatening when light is shone in its damn face.
She turned to see Arjun's balcony. Wondered if what he said last night was just a figment of her imagination, "maybe it wasn't real" kavya thought to herself. Just then her neighbour steps into his balcony, cigarette in between his fingers, eyes looking straight ahead.
She decided to ignore it, but wasn't about to leave her own space just because of him.
She looked straight ahead too."Don't ever think about it " It sounded more like an order than request
He didn't even look in her general direction, his gaze still fixed on the scenery people like kavya and him pay an arm and a leg for . Kavya was stunned, she turned her head to see him but couldn't say a thing. Arjun did the same.
Silence
Very.loud.silence.
Kavya took in the sight. His stark nose, wavy dark brown hair, dimpled chin, light beard and eyes
His eyes. Seemed like the deepest shade of grey, to her seemed like a shield. Nothing could penetrate it or seep through it. But Kavya wasn't like that, she didn't have a shield and hated how vulnerable she was, she hated that he knew it too.
"Babe, have you seen my blue shirt?" a yell for assistance could be heard.
The loud silence was broken and
Both neighbours blinked.
Arjun had a small smirk on his face as if he could sense the annoyance
"Kavya!" Yelled Sid . His girlfriend left the balcony and walked towards where he was not before her eyes meeting Arjun's shield one more time .A million things were going through her head but she knew better than to ignore Sid. Just simply not in the mood for a fight that would make things worse.
"Yeah?" She said as she entered,
"Never mind I found it" he said with a light chuckle, "thanks for nothing" he murmured as he left the room. Kavya heard but didn't listen. She stopped a long time ago. "I'll be back late, so you don't have to make dinner, tomorrow we'll go out to that Chinese place. I promise" Sid grabbed his car keys gave his girlfriend a smile and closed the door. Kavya froze. Not phased by Sid' s behaviour this is just the way he is. Twisting words, making it appear to be a favour on his supposed loved one, sly comments empty promises.
When he would act like this in front of guests, she would laugh it off calling it his 'Sidness' they would laugh too.Why make things awkward and hard when you can pretend and forget?
She was phased however, by Arjun. Questions and more questions that's all she had. She decided she wanted answers too.
