The summer heat weighed heavily on the room, making everything seem sluggish and stifled. You sat on the floor, knees pulled to your chest, staring at the window where light filtered through the blinds in fractured lines. The cicadas buzzed endlessly outside, their hum blending with the silence that hung thick between you and Kyo Sohma. It wasn't the usual, comfortable quiet you had shared with him so many times before. This was heavy. This was suffocating.

You had known something was wrong the moment he walked through the door. His fiery eyes, usually so full of passion, were dim, clouded with something you couldn't place. He hadn't said a word since arriving, hadn't acknowledged your tentative greetings or the way you had been waiting for him for hours. Instead, he stood still, hovering just beyond your reach, as though the very air between you was too painful to cross.

"Kyo...?" Your voice was soft, breaking the silence like glass shattering against a hard surface. "What's wrong?"

His hands balled into fists at his sides, knuckles turning white. He didn't look at you, his eyes fixed somewhere on the floor, as though he couldn't bear to face you. The tension in the room grew unbearable, and a sinking feeling began to claw at your chest.

"You need to leave," he muttered, his voice hoarse, strained.

The words hit you like a blow, and for a moment, you couldn't breathe. "What...? Kyo, what are you talking about?"

"I said leave." His voice was louder now, sharper, but still, he wouldn't look at you. His body was tense, coiled like a spring, ready to snap at any moment. "Go. Don't come back."

You blinked, the weight of his words pressing down on you like a crushing force. "I... I don't understand. Kyo, what did I do? Why are you—?"

"This isn't about you!" His sudden outburst made you flinch, and his head snapped up to finally meet your gaze. His eyes were burning now, but not with anger. There was something deeper, something broken behind them. "This isn't about you, okay? Just... just leave."

You could feel your heart pounding in your chest, each beat echoing in your ears as the reality of what he was saying settled in. "If it's not about me, then why are you pushing me away?" Your voice trembled despite your best efforts to remain calm. "Kyo, please. Talk to me. Whatever it is, we can get through it together."

His laugh was bitter, hollow. "Together?" He shook his head, pacing like a caged animal. "You don't get it. You *can't* get it. You don't know what it's like to be me. To have this... this *thing* hanging over you, every damn day of your life."

You swallowed hard, your chest tightening. "Then let me help you. Let me understand."

But he shook his head, his expression hardening. "You can't help me. No one can."

Your eyes began to sting as tears welled up, but you blinked them away, refusing to let them fall. "I love you, Kyo," you whispered, your voice cracking. "I love you, and I'm not going to leave just because things are hard."

For a moment, something flickered in his eyes, something soft and fleeting. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a cold resolve that sent a chill down your spine.

"You'll only get hurt if you stay," he said, his voice low and rough. "I'm not worth it, (Y/N). I'm not... I'm not worth you."

Tears spilled down your cheeks now, hot and unstoppable. "Don't say that. You don't get to decide that for me. I love you, and I'll fight for you, no matter what."

He looked at you then, really looked at you, and for a split second, you saw the vulnerability he tried so hard to hide. But then his walls came crashing back down, and he turned his back to you, his shoulders rigid.
