The sound of the wind whistling through the trees filled your ears as you made your way toward the Revolutionary Army's main base. After weeks of traveling, this would be your first time seeing Sabo since he'd left on a dangerous mission with the rest of the commanders. Your heart beat a little faster with every step, anticipation and worry gnawing at you. Would he be okay? You hadn't heard much since the mission started, and the uncertainty had made the days crawl by painfully slow.
"Sabo is strong. He'll be fine," you whispered to yourself, trying to calm the nervous butterflies swirling in your stomach. But as much as you believed in his strength, the ache of missing him couldn't be ignored. Every moment without him felt like an eternity.
As the base finally came into view, you noticed a familiar figure standing near the entrance, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed, gazing out into the distance. His long blond hair moved slightly in the breeze, his black coat billowing around him. It was Sabo.
You could tell by the way his body tensed slightly that he sensed you before he even saw you. His head turned slowly, and when his blue eyes locked onto yours, a soft, warm smile spread across his face.
"(Y/N)," he called your name, the relief in his voice unmistakable. It was like hearing music after weeks of silence. Without thinking, you sprinted toward him, your feet barely touching the ground as you closed the distance between you.
"Sabo!" you cried out, and in an instant, you were in his arms. His embrace was strong and warm, his familiar scent filling your senses. For a moment, you just stayed there, wrapped in his arms, your head pressed against his chest. His heartbeat was steady, a comforting rhythm that melted away your worry.
"I've missed you," Sabo murmured into your hair, his voice a soft whisper. His gloved hand gently cupped the back of your head, holding you close as if afraid you might disappear.
"I missed you too," you replied, your voice muffled against his coat. You pulled back slightly, looking up at him with a small smile. His face was tired, but his eyes shone with that same determined light you had always admired. There was a small cut on his cheek, barely noticeable, but you frowned anyway.
"Are you hurt?" you asked, your hand brushing over the cut gently.
He shook his head with a chuckle, capturing your hand in his. "Nothing serious. You know me—I've been through worse."
"You always say that, but I still worry," you muttered, squeezing his hand.
"I know, and I'm sorry for making you worry," Sabo said softly, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in a soothing motion. His gaze softened as he looked at you. "But I'm here now. We're both here."
You smiled, feeling warmth bloom in your chest. "Yeah, we are."
Sabo led you over to a quiet spot near the edge of the base, where you could sit beneath the trees and talk without interruptions. The late afternoon sun filtered through the leaves, casting a golden glow around you. It felt peaceful, a stark contrast to the turmoil you'd both been through recently.
"So, how did it go?" you asked after a moment of comfortable silence, leaning your head against his shoulder.
"The mission? It was tough, but we managed to pull it off," Sabo replied, his arm wrapping around your shoulders to pull you closer. "It's not over yet, though. There's still so much we need to do. But right now..." He paused, his voice growing softer as he glanced down at you. "Right now, I just want to focus on this moment. On you."
Your heart skipped a beat at his words, and you felt a soft blush creep up your cheeks. Sabo had always been straightforward with his feelings, never one to hide how much you meant to him. It was one of the things you loved most about him—his honesty, his passion.
"I'm glad you're safe," you whispered, tilting your head up to look at him. His eyes met yours, and for a moment, everything else faded away. There was only him, only the warmth of his hand holding yours and the steady rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.
"I'm glad you're here," Sabo said quietly, his thumb brushing over your cheek gently. "You don't know how much I've missed you."
You smiled, your heart fluttering in your chest. "I think I have an idea."
His eyes softened even more at your words, and before you knew it, he was leaning down, closing the distance between you. His lips brushed against yours, a soft and tender kiss that made your heart race. It wasn't hurried or desperate, but gentle and full of the love and care he always showed you.
When he pulled back, his forehead rested against yours, and you could see the small smile playing on his lips. "I love you, (Y/N)," he whispered, his voice barely audible, as if the words were meant only for you.
Your breath caught in your throat, but you didn't hesitate for a second. "I love you too, Sabo."
His smile widened at your confession, and he kissed you again, deeper this time, his hands framing your face as if you were something precious. And to him, you were. You always had been.
In that moment, beneath the golden light of the setting sun, with Sabo holding you close, you felt like everything was right in the world. There were battles ahead, struggles yet to be faced, but as long as you had him by your side, you knew you could face anything.
For now, though, you allowed yourself to enjoy the peace of the moment, wrapped in the warmth of Sabo's love.
