The early morning sunlight streamed softly through the curtains of Tim and Lucy's bedroom, casting a warm glow across the room. The peaceful quiet was soon interrupted by the soft stirrings of the twins in the next room. At just 20 months old, Emma and Ethan had developed a reliable schedule, and the couple knew the peaceful morning would be short-lived.
Lucy, lying comfortably under the covers, let out a low groan as she shifted, her hand instinctively going to her slightly swollen belly. Even though she was still in the early stages of her pregnancy, the familiar symptoms of fatigue and nausea were relentless. Morning sickness had become an unwelcome guest in her life, and today was no different.
Tim was already half-awake beside her, his senses always on high alert, even in his sleep. He felt her shift and opened one eye, glancing over at her with a sleepy smile.
"Morning," he murmured, voice rough with sleep.
Lucy turned her head slightly to meet his gaze, her eyes heavy with tiredness. "Morning," she whispered back, her voice soft.
"Feeling okay?" Tim asked, already knowing the answer but asking anyway. His protective instincts had only grown stronger since learning about the pregnancy.
Lucy let out a small sigh. "I feel like a truck ran over me," she admitted, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips despite the discomfort. "And the nausea... it's still here."
Tim chuckled softly, rolling over to face her fully. He reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "How about I get you some breakfast? Maybe something light will help?"
She nodded, grateful for his help. "That would be great. But no eggs... I don't think I can handle the smell right now."
Tim smirked, knowing all too well how sensitive her nose had become. "Got it. No eggs."
He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before slipping out of bed. As he headed toward the kitchen, the unmistakable sound of the twins' voices started to filter through the baby monitor on the nightstand. Lucy could hear Ethan babbling to himself, and Emma's high-pitched giggles followed soon after.
Lucy smiled despite the nausea. Even on her worst days, the sound of their little voices always managed to lift her spirits. She pushed herself up slowly, propping pillows behind her back as she sat up. The movement made her stomach churn, and she closed her eyes, taking slow breaths to calm the wave of nausea.
Tim returned a few minutes later, carrying a small tray with toast, some fruit, and ginger tea—something he'd researched as being good for morning sickness. He placed the tray gently on her lap and sat beside her, looking at her with concern.
"Here you go, something light. Try the tea first," he suggested.
Lucy gave him an appreciative smile and picked up the mug of tea, taking a cautious sip. The warmth and ginger immediately soothed her stomach a bit, and she let out a relieved breath. "That actually helps," she said softly.
"Good," Tim said, watching her closely. He knew how tough this first month had been for her, and it was only the beginning. But if there was one thing he knew for sure, it was that they would get through it together.
The twins' babbling turned into louder chatter, signaling that they were fully awake and ready to start their day. Lucy gave Tim a knowing look, and he sighed, standing up from the bed.
