Hope is sitting at her desk finishing her English Lit paper when her phone rings. "Maya, It's two in the morning, what's up?"

"I was trying to reach you all day yesterday. Are you ok?' Maya says with sorrow in her voice.

"I was in the library, I have a major paper due tomorrow and it was stressing me out so i had my phone off." Hope says slightly annoyed but with concern. "Is something wrong?"

"Oh god, I assumed you heard by now," Maya pauses and Hope can practically hear her shaking through the phone. "Hope, Dr. Saltzman died. I'm sorry I thought the twins would have told you by now, I was calling to see if you needed anything." Maya says with sadness.

Silence is all Maya gets in return for a few minutes. "Hope, Are you still there?"

"Yeah....y-yeah I'm here. Shit, I didn't know. When? How did you find out? What happened? Why hasn't anyone told me?" The last part was mostly said to herself.

"MG told Ethan yesterday. Apparently he had a wreck early yesterday morning, he died instantly." Maya pauses, "Hope what can I do?" Maya says with the most sincerity. She can't stand the thought of being hundreds of miles away from her friend right now.

"I have to finish this paper Maya and then find a flight. I know you're busy with school, but I'll be ok I promise. Thanks for calling me. I'll try and call you tomorrow." Hope rushes out and ends the call. She doesn't realize she's been crying until she hangs up the phone.

Hope sits there staring at her phone for a long time and tries to process what she's just been told. Why didn't anyone call her? Has she checked out so much that no one can bother to let her know when something like this happens? How could this happen? The last thought she has but certainly the one that's plaguing her the most....... oh god, is Josie ok?

Hope and Josie haven't spoken much in the last two years, they've been at different colleges since Hope decided to transfer. She told everyone that she needed a change of scenery and the english department was better at her new college. While both of these explanations were true, Hope had an entirely different reason for leaving.

It's not at all a coincidence that Hope decided to leave the semester after Josie started dating Penelope. Hope tried to get past her feelings for the brunette twin, but in the end it was too painful to witness the new couple together. She had to get away. So in true Mikaelson fashion she left and closed herself off from almost everyone in her life, including her now former best friend, the girl she loved more than anything.

Hope's finger hovers over Josie's contact in her phone for a long time until she remembers that it's almost 3am where she is and even later where Josie is. Sighing she puts her phone aside and reaches for her laptop. She finishes the last paragraph of her paper,  books the first flight she can get and heads to her room to pack. She needs to get back home to her former best friend.
