Not Ever

Hope is once again on a plane back to Mystic Falls. She has no plan of action, all she knows is she has to fix this. She has to make things right, whether that involves confessing  her undying love or telling Josie what happened was a mistake and beg for her forgiveness.

Hope has known she felt differently about the brunette for a long time if she is being honest.  Never once has she tried to label those feelings or act on them. She couldn't risk the heartache. She certainly couldn't do that to Josie. She couldn't ruin their lifelong friendship just because of some silly crush. But now things are different. She knows she is utterly and completely in love with Josie. Consequences be damned, Hope has to see her former best friend and sort her heart out once and for all.

Hope arrives at her mother's house and makes her way inside.

"Mom, I'm home!" Hope shouts once she shuts the front door.

"Hi sweetie! I didn't know you were going to be here today. You said I was picking you up tomorrow." Hayley says while hugging her daughter.

"Yeah, change of plans, I couldn't wait another day." Hope says once her mom releases her as she avoids her eyes.

"Hope, honey, why are you home exactly? Not that I'm not happy to see you. You know I am always happy to see you,  you just seem a little off."

"Can I ask you a question?" Hope asks hesitantly.

"Of course, ask away." Hayley leads her over to the couch.

Hope takes a deep breath before continuing. "Mom, I think..I think...I, Josie...I...ugh."

"It's ok if you can't say it out loud. Love is a scary thing. It can be hard to admit." Hayleys says as Hope looks up into her eyes.

"H-How did you know?" Hope whispers on the verge of tears.

"A mother always knows. You two have loved each other since before you knew what love was."

"What if she doesn't love me the way that I love her?" Hopes sighs dropping her head in her hands.

"Hope, I can't speak for Josie but I've seen the way she looks at you. She looks at you the same way you look at her, the same way I use to look at your father. That look is undeniable."

"Really?" Hope starts to sob quietly as Hayley pulls her in for another hug.

"Yes really. Honey what brought all this on?"

"Mom, I screwed up and I don't know how to fix it." Hope says as she slowly pulls away.

"I'm sure it's nothing that can't be fixed. When you love someone you don't give up, not ever."

Hope smiles sadly at her mother's words. "You're right. I can't give up without a fight. I won't lose her again." Hope kisses her mom on the cheek and makes her way to the front door.

"I'll be back." Hope says as she opens the front door.

"You have both been through a lot. Just be careful. I just want you to be happy."

"I will I promise. Happiness is just a few blocks away after all."
