As Emily climbed off the motorcycle, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over her. She was grateful to Jake for the ride, but she was also eager to get away from his charming, yet unsettling, presence.

Just as she was about to head into the house, Emily's father emerged from the front door, a look of curiosity on his face. "Hey, kiddo, I saw you getting off a motorcycle," he said, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Did you make a new friend?"

Emily felt a surge of anger and resentment towards her father. Why was he suddenly interested in her life, after ignoring her all morning?

"Why do you care?" Emily shot back, her voice cold and detached. "You didn't even see me off to school this morning."

Her father's expression faltered, and for a moment, Emily saw a glimmer of guilt in his eyes. But she didn't care. She was still hurt and angry about being abandoned that morning.

Without another word, Emily brushed past her father and stormed into the house, slamming the door behind her. She didn't stop until she reached her room, where she flopped down on her bed, feeling frustrated and upset.

Why did her father always do this? Why did he only show interest in her life when it was convenient for him? Emily felt a lump form in her throat as she thought about all the times she had felt neglected and ignored by her father.

As she lay there, trying to process her emotions, Emily couldn't help but wonder what her life would be like if her father had been more involved, more caring. Would she be happier, more confident? Or would she still be struggling to find her place in this new town?

The questions swirled in her mind, but Emily knew she wouldn't find the answers anytime soon. All she could do was try to move forward, one day at a time.
