After master's words, a girl approached as if on command. She had black hair with green tips and looked shy. Without saying a word, she approached the other Hashira and knelt down.
“This is Konomi Takeda, she is the Wind Hashira,” Kiriya introduced her.
Right after her, a boy entered. When I saw him for the first time, I stared in disbelief. That... that was Rengoku-san! But... he died right in front of us... how was he here?
“And this is Senjuro Rengoku, he will be the Flame Hashira.”
Inosuke whispered to me:
“So, this is some relative of Fonfuko?”
“His name is Rengoku! And yes, he’s probably his brother.”
Kiriya was about to say something else, but two women came rushing in. Both of them looked worried.
“Hello, Makio and Hinatsuru!” the master greeted them. “What brings you here?”
“Master, we’re so sorry to interrupt you, but it’s really important!” Hinatsuru said urgently.
“Suma has been kidnapped and turned into a demon!” Makio exclaimed. “And Tengen-sama went after her!”
Tears streamed down Hinatsuru’s cheeks. The master promised them they would search for both, and the two women left, somewhat reassured.
“Atsuko, you know what to do. Your colleagues will fill you in on what we’ve discussed at this meeting,” Kiriya said.
The girl standing across from him nodded curtly and left the gathering with a slight smile.

Three days after Nezuko received her sword, her crow arrived, screeching at the top of its lungs:
“Mission! Caw! Caw! Mission for Nezuko Kamado after sunset today!”
The girl jumped in surprise. Not that she wasn’t happy her first mission had arrived, but so many things could go wrong in such a short time!
“Could you give us more information?” Urokodaki asked. Nezuko jumped again. She hadn’t noticed when her teacher arrived.
“This is a triple mission!” The crow squawked again. “Nezuko Kamado, Akira Takahashi, and Ishiyo Murakawa must work together!”
“Um... anything special about the demon we’re hunting?” Nezuko asked, hoping for more information.
“Two days ago, all the residents of a village not far from here were found dead. You three must be scouts—your task is to gather as much information as possible about this demon, and higher-ranked demon slayers will be sent after it.”
“So we’re just scouting?” Nezuko asked, disappointed.
“Don’t complain!” Matsuemon scolded her. “For a first mission, it’s fine.”

An hour before sunset, Nezuko began to prepare—she put on her uniform and checked if her blade was in good condition. Then Matsuemon called her, and the two of them set off together. Nezuko waved goodbye to her teacher. She was nervous—she needed to find a place to live, but that couldn't be Urokodaki’s home—she didn’t want to intrude, after all.
“I’ll think about it later,” the girl muttered to herself.
After about an hour of running, she finally arrived. At the village sign stood a boy and a girl. From a distance, Nezuko recognized Akira and Ishiyo and waved to them. Akira beamed when he saw her, while Ishiyo just gave her a dismissive glance and looked back at the sign.
“Akira, Ishiyo, hello! I’m glad to see you!” Nezuko greeted them.
“And I’m not,” Ishiyo muttered under her breath.
“Same here, Miss Grumpy!” Akira shot back and turned to Nezuko. “I’m happy to see you too!”
Ishiyo just rolled her eyes and told them to follow her. The trio entered the village and began inspecting the houses, even going inside some of them. Except for the blood staining the floors and walls of the rooms, everything seemed normal—there wasn’t a trace of the demon. The three began to feel a bit uneasy. They checked each house twice, but still found nothing.
“Maybe the demon is hiding somewhere nearby?” Ishiyo suggested. “In a cave, perhaps.”
“And why would such a strong demon need to hide?” Akira asked.
“Well, it probably sensed our presence, realized we’re from the Demon Slayer Corps, and is too scared to come out!” Ishiyo snapped.
“And why would I be afraid of weaklings like you?” someone said behind her. Ishiyo spun around in an instant. Behind her stood a demon.
“Hello, boys and girls! I’m Suma! Are you ready for a good fight?”
