Chapter Eleven:

It was so pleasant to wake up to the touch of long fingers caressing his face.

Percy melted into the touch, struggling to open his eyes.

How much he loved it when Ares showed affection like that.

He lay there with his eyes closed, surrendering to the sensation, when suddenly, a voice he didn’t like said, “Beautiful.”

Percy’s eyes shot open as he sat up quickly, and when he saw Eros leaning back, his hand raised, revealing what he had been doing, all the events of last night came rushing back at once, and darkness filled his heart.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Percy asked, his voice hoarse from sleep. He held back from asking where Ares was.

“Relax, my demigod. Even in your sleep, you radiate emotions. I just couldn’t resist.” Eros smiled, and his red eyes gleamed in the early morning light.

Percy shuddered and stood up, gathering his few belongings.

The god of love stretched his wings and stood behind Percy, watching the demigod for a long moment before speaking.

“Ares is waiting for you at the park entrance. Go to him and finish your journey together.”

Percy looked up at him, suppressing his pain. “I’ll go,” he said dryly, turning his back on him.

“Percy,” Eros stopped him.

“Maybe you should listen to what Ares has to say. A little advice from the god of love.”
He suddenly grabbed Percy’s hand and raised it to his lips, causing the young man to blush in embarrassment.

“We’ll meet again, Perseus Jackson.”

Percy mumbled a quick goodbye, turned, and walked away. When he heard the flutter of wings and turned back, Eros was already gone.

"Did you spend a good time with Eros this morning?" Ares asked when Percy emerged from Golden Gate Park. The god was waiting for him directly across from the exit, near a small structure that appeared to be public restrooms. His tone was dry as he spoke.

"It’s none of your business." Percy shot back, matching Ares' tone.

Ares wore a short-sleeved black shirt that highlighted his large arm muscles. His tight black pants emphasized every contour of his body and his long legs. Percy had to try really hard to stop his eyes from lingering.

Ares took an intimidating step toward Percy, but Percy refused to let the god’s presence affect him, remaining rooted in place until Ares was nearly pressed against him.

"Listen to me, and listen well." Ares growled, grabbing the collar of Percy’s shirt and pulling him so close their heads almost collided.

"You piece of—" Percy snarled, trying to push the god away as emotions surged through him.

"Don't you dare disrespect me, demigod. I think it's time for a reminder." Ares' flame-like eyes bored into Percy's green ones. "You still belong to me. Your every action, morning, noon, and night, is my business. You will listen to what I have to say about last night, whether you want to or not. If you refuse, I'll tie you up and force you to listen. Is that clear?"

Ares released Percy, who staggered back, staring at the god with mixed feelings.

"Look," Ares gestured toward the vehicle beside him, and only then did Percy notice the massive black motorcycle standing there.
