— "THANKS FOR ignoring me,"
"Anytime."
"What the fuck is wrong with you."
— THE DRIVE TO ELLIOTT'S was an experience Julien would prefer to forget—if only his body would allow it. Every sharp turn Lila made felt like a personal attack on his stomach. He clutched the sides of the seat until his knuckles turned white, muttering half-forgotten prayers under his breath. The only thing louder than the screeching tires was Diego's frantic shouts from the passengers seat as Lila disregarded every traffic signal and shred of common sense.
Lila swerved sharply at Fives last direction, narrowly missing an elderly couple out for their daily walk, and probably their last if she hadn't already given the two a heart attack. Julien's head knocked painfully against the window. He winced, rubbing the sore spot. "I swear on all things holy," he groaned, "one more turn like that, and I'm going to lose whatever's left of my lunch."
They screeched to a halt at the curb outside Elliott's, and Julien and Diego stumbled out with shaky legs, depending on the nearest lamppost to hold both their weight unlike Lila and Five who both casually stepped onto the pavement.
"Shit, Lady," Diego muttered, catching his breath. "Ever think about getting a driver's license?""Why get a license when you've got instincts?" Lila smirked, flicking a piece of glass from the car's broken headlight.
Five shushed them. "We don't have time for this," he huffed as he marched toward the entrance of the shop.
Julien and Diego groaned from where they stood, Julien clutching his stomach, "I'm sure the world can spare a few seconds before it spontaneously combusts to let my insides settle back where they belong."
Just as he finished his sentence, something caught his eye—a flutter of movement behind one of the upstairs windows of the store. The curtains were drawn hastily, making Julien frown.
