The days that followed Slappy's transformation felt surreal. You had done a surprisingly good job of keeping his human form a secret, though the excitement bubbled just beneath the surface. Each time you saw him, you couldn't help but glance at him, wondering when he might change again—when you'd see that softer, more human side of him. And though Slappy hadn't said much about it, you could tell he was thinking about it too.
One evening, while you were over at R.L. Stine's house with Zach and Hannah, you sat on the edge of one of the living room chairs, your mind buzzing with the idea that had been lingering for days. Slappy was sitting in his usual spot on the couch, and though he seemed relaxed, you could sense a certain tension about him. You had been thinking about introducing his human form to Zach and Hannah, but you weren't sure how Slappy felt about it.
After a few moments of quiet, you finally spoke up. "Hey, Slappy... I've been thinking."
He looked at you, his wooden eyes narrowing slightly. "What about?"
You hesitated, glancing at Zach and Hannah across the room before turning back to Slappy. "Well... do you think it's time to show them? You know, your other form?"
Slappy's expression shifted. His normally confident demeanor faltered, and you could see the hesitation in his eyes. He looked away, his posture stiffening. "You mean... my human form?" he asked quietly.
You nodded, trying to keep your tone light. "Yeah. I think they'd want to know. But it's up to you. You don't have to if you're not ready."
Slappy was silent for a moment, his fingers tapping lightly on the arm of the couch. "It's not that I don't want to," he said slowly, "I just don't know how they'll react. Last time Zach saw me, he wasn't exactly.. Thrilled."
You smiled softly. "I get it. But maybe this time will be different. You're different now. Besides, this is R.L. Stine's house—it's safe here."
Slappy sighed, still unsure. He glanced over at Zach and Hannah, who were chatting quietly with Stine in the kitchen. After a moment, he turned back to you, his expression more serious.
"Alright," he said, though there was still a hint of nervousness in his voice. "Let's do it. I guess it's about time they see the 'new me.'"
You beamed, excited that he had agreed. "Okay, we'll do it when you're ready."
Not long after, as the conversation in the kitchen wrapped up, Zach, Hannah, and Stine returned to the living room. You felt your pulse quicken as you glanced at Slappy, who remained seated, still as ever.
"Hey, guys," you said, trying to keep your tone casual, "there's something I need to show you. It's... kind of a big deal."
Zach raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
You turned toward Slappy, who met your gaze, his eyes filled with resolve. "Slappy, are you ready?" you asked quietly.
He slowly nodded, shifting on couch. "Yeah, I'm ready."
With that, he closed his eyes, and the familiar blue glow enveloped him. Zach, Hannah, and Stine watched in stunned silence as Slappy's small wooden frame began to shift and transform.
His limbs lengthened, his features softened, and his dark brown hair became real, slightly tousled in the front. Within moments, he stood before them, human—taller, more lifelike, and still wearing his signature black suit.
Zach's jaw dropped. "No way..."
Hannah gasped, her eyes wide with shock. "Is this... really happening?"
You grinned, unable to hold back your excitement any longer. "Yep. This is Slappy—the human version."
Slappy, clearly feeling the weight of their stares, gave a small, sheepish smile. "Hey, guys," he said, his voice softer than usual.
Zach blinked, still trying to process what he was seeing. "How is this even possible?"
Before anyone could answer, Stine stepped forward, his face breaking into a knowing smile. "It's exactly what I intended," he said, his voice filled with amusement. "I told you there would be a twist, didn't I?"
You looked at Stine, your heart swelling with gratitude. He had hinted at something all those weeks ago, and now it was all clear. "This was the twist?" you asked, glancing between Slappy and Stine.
Stine nodded. "Indeed. I knew it was only a matter of time before Slappy found out. His human form is something of an experiment—one I'm pleased to see is going well."
Slappy looked at Stine, still adjusting to the attention. "So... you're not surprised?" he asked, his voice quieter now.
Stine chuckled. "Not at all. In fact, I'm impressed. It seems like this form suits you well."Zach, finally finding his voice, shook his head in disbelief. "This is... wild. I mean, Slappy's just... human now? He can just do that?"
You nodded, your excitement bubbling over again. "Pretty much! He can change whenever he wants."
Zach seemed to consider that for a moment before a grin spread across his face. "You know... if you can turn into a human, Slappy, you could actually... leave the house. Do stuff. Go places."
Slappy's eyes widened slightly at the suggestion, and for a moment, he didn't respond. The idea of venturing out into the world as a human—it was something he hadn't considered before. But now that Zach mentioned it, the possibilities seemed endless.
Stine, ever the silent observer, watched Slappy closely, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. "It's an interesting idea," he said quietly. "There's a whole world out there, Slappy. Maybe it's time you see it. Properly this time."
Slappy didn't respond right away, but you could see the gears turning in his mind. The thought of leaving the house, experiencing life as a human, filled him with both excitement and apprehension. It was a new frontier, one he wasn't sure he was ready to explore... but the temptation was undeniable.
As the conversation wound down, you caught Slappy's eye, and he gave you a small smile. The idea of going out into the world was daunting, but with you by his side, maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.
