Do you know how a perfect day starts? With a little cup of coffee. Everything was going smoothly—waking up on time, having a peaceful breakfast, and no interruptions. For once, the universe seemed to be on my side. But, of course, that couldn't last, could it?

I grabbed my favorite mug, poured in the milk, mixed it with coffee and sugar, and took a sip. Instantly, a bitter, sharp taste flooded my mouth. I spat it out, horrified. What on earth...?

Looking down at the cup, I knew exactly who was behind this. There was only one person with enough audacity to sabotage my morning routine—and, naturally, he lived next door.

Veer Sehgal, the answer to my nightmares.

I stormed out of my house, cup in hand, heading straight for his door. Without hesitation, I rang the bell, tapping my foot impatiently. He answered almost immediately, leaning casually against the doorframe, that infuriating smirk plastered on his face.

"Enjoyed the salted caramel coffee, without caramel of course?" he asked, the smirk widening.

"Oh, I certainly did. And I think you should, too," I shot back, and before he could react, I splashed the bitter coffee all over his smug face.

He wiped his face with the back of his hand, his expression darkening. "Sweetheart, you're going to pay for this."

"First of all, you started it. Second, I am definitely not your sweetheart," I snapped, glaring at him.

"Yeah, whatever," he muttered dismissively, and with that, he slammed the door in my face.

The audacity—who did he think he was?

I took a deep breath, trying to push him out of my mind as I headed back to my house. No point in wasting any more energy on him. At least for now.

"Bye Mumma" I shouted as I ran from the house. "Bye, beta" My mom replied.

"Hola amigo" It was my best friend, Araniya. "Hi," I replied.
"Oh my god, what did he do this time?" She asked looking at my suddenly angered face. "Nothing much just added salt in my coffee mug which I did not notice." She burst out laughing. "Tere saath nahi hua na isliye haas rahi hai." I spoke. "Veer toh aisa hi hai," she said giggling.
(This did not happen to you, that's why you are laughing.)
(Veer, is like that only)

We both reached the bus stop. The bus was already there waiting for us I entered the bus and took the second last seat. I sat there and looked around to see Veer also sitting on the second last seat.

"Aru sit with me," Veer said looking at me. "No, she is my best friend so she will sit with me," I said anger evident in my eyes. "She is my best friend too." He argues back.

"Stop, Veer Sam will sit with you and I am sitting with Seerat thik hai?" Araniya said clearly irritated.

We silently settled down as the bus started moving.

You might be wondering how we all became best friends, especially considering that Veer and I don't get along at all. It all started when my mother and his mother were college roommates. They became best friends, and after my mom's marriage, they decided to be neighbors. Advika Aunty and my mom were pregnant at the same time, so Veer and I were born around the same period.

However, as we grew older, we didn't get along at all. Fortunately, when we were four, Araniya's family moved from Mumbai to Delhi, and she became our neighbor, living just two houses away from mine.

When we were ten, Araniya introduced us to Samarth, a new student in her class who had just moved into the house across from hers. As our friendship grew over the years, our parents also became closer.

"Veer what you did today is not at all fair I mean salted coffee, so eww" Araniya started. "I mean it was supposed to be salted caramel, but she was way too dumb not to notice the salt present in the cup," Veer replied. "Oh, hello, What the heck mein nahi tum ho bewakoof, or voh toh tumhare biology ke marks dekh kar hi pta chal gaya"
(I am not, you are an idiot, and I knew it just by looking at your biology marks.)

"yeah, whatever" he rolled his eyes.

Since it was our first day after a long summer vacation, everybody was busy talking about how they spent their vacations.

As all four of us sat in the canteen, Veer started by flexing his trip to Banglore. I went to my nani's house like always and as an average Indian.

"Guys you won't believe it, I went to the RCB home stadium" He started which made me roll my eyes.

"Really" Araniya and Samarth asked. He was the only RCB fan, but I wasn't, Araniya and Samarth on the other hand loved CSK. I will always be loyal to the Mumbai Indians.

"Oh my god, a stadium with no trophies, that nice Veer," I said. Everyone burst out laughing.
"Nice One," Samarth said as we high-fived.

My statement was enough to shut him up for the whole lunch break and I must say this day is going that bad.

The break ended and we went to our respective classes.

As we were studying, our physics sir annocued "Students, there will be a science exhibition organized in our school and it will one one-fifth of your final grades. This will be a group project."

Just as he finished speaking, all the girls who were busy drooling at Veer sprang from their seats and asked "Veer will you be my partner?"

Unhe Veer mein dikhta bhi kya hai, bus naam hai Veer nahi toh bighi billi hai voh.
(What do they even see in him, his name is Veer, but in reality, he is a big coward.)
(NOTE: Veer means warrior, brave)

"Students, get back to your seats, I knew this would have happened so I have already made groups of two."

The whole class booed. "So, for the first group, it is roll number 1 and 2...." He continued, "And finally roll numbers 21 and 22, which are Seerat and Veer."

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

No this cannot be happening, ugh I hate my life, bhagwaan ji aap mujhe ek din ke liye bhi khush nahi dekh sakte?
(God, can't you see me happy for just one day?)

All the girls were glaring at me.

And just like thatthe class ended and so did my good mood.
