"I trust all of you."
Virat's heart churned when he heard his sister's words. She was indirectly refusing to choose between him and their father, it was all crystal clear. It was all right in front of him and he still can't do anything.
Has he been such an awful brother that she can't trust him?
Was his anger pushing her away as well?
Virat was an expressive person and he has always been rather proud of it. He wore his heart on his sleeves and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for the ones he loves.
Virat didn't believe in hiding his emotions. He would hug people when he was happy, he would yell at people when he was mad and he didn't believe in holding grudges. But unfortunately, Virat was used to being misunderstood.
He lost many friends because he would lash out at them. A lot of them told him his temper would ruin everything good in his life. And one of his exes even said he was a nightmare to be with.
But none of it ever fazed Virat.
His siblings understand him. They loved him regardless of his flaws and Virat believed he didn't need anything more.
Now that Virat thought about it, he has never really contemplated what he'll do if they are also fed up with him and his issues.
"Virat! Kya hua?" Virat snapped out of his thoughts when he felt someone shaking him.
"Kya hua hai? Kahan khoya hua hai?" MS asked.
"Nothing bhai." Virat forced a smile. "I was going to talk to Amu."
"Ah yes that. I don't want you getting angry at her, alright? No yelling."
Virat was offended.
"Why do think I'm the only one who'll yell and shout?"
"Because you do?"
"Bhai!"
MS laughed, ruffled Virat's hair and went away.
Virat took a deep breath before entering his sister's room. Rohit seemed to have calmed her down and they looked adorable watching their animals' documentaries with Amulya's head on Rohit's shoulder.
"Hey, mind if I join you guys?" Virat didn't wait for an answer as he launched himself on the bed, adjusting himself so he was sprawled over his siblings.
"Yes we mind very- Virat!" Rohit groaned when Virat's foot met his jaw.
"I didn't ask you." Virat remarked and nudged Amulya. "I'm sure the first love of my life, my favourite person in the whole wide world and the most adorable human I know doesn't mind."
Amulya glared at him.
"Gussa hai to daant le na. Aise kyun kar rahi hai?"
"Amu?"
Amulya tried to push Virat off her and Rohit stifled his laughter.
"Yaar aise mat kar meri jaan."
"I don't want to talk to you."
"But why?"
"Meri marzi. Merko nahi karni!"
"Par merko karni hai." Amulya was stubborn enough but there was no one who could match Virat.
"Don't you remember what bhabhi always tells us? We have to talk to solve things, Amulya ji."
"Bhabhi also tells us not to let our anger control us, Virat ji!"
Amulya tried to get up again and Virat had enough.
"Don't you dare." He sat up and held her shoulders. "At least tell me what I did to deserve this, your highness."
"As if you don't know already." Amulya scoffed.
"I don't. I haven't done anything wrong, baby. I don't know what he told you but trust me it wasn't the truth. When has he ever said the truth?"
"How would I know? You don't tell me anything either!"
"Because we don't want you to worry unnecessarily, Amu."
"Do you not realise I'm worrying even more because I'm totally clueless and unaware of what's happening? Don't you think everything would be way better if you guys just- just end this secrecy?" Amulya threw her hands up in exasperation and Virat wanted to pull his hair out. Wasn't he saying the same thing to his brothers?
"I know Amu, I know but you need to understand there is some stuff we need to keep you away from. I know it's frustrating, trust me, I want to just tell you everything but- it's not just the right time baby. I don't know how to explain it- but you know I never lie right? Not to you. I don't know what dad told you, and honestly I don't care either."
Rohit couldn't ignore the pleading in Virat's voice. Virat was always ordering them around. He never asked, he demanded. This side to him barely made it to the surface.
"What I do care about is what you think about me." Virat said quietly. "As long as you don't hate me, nothing else matters."
"What are you saying bhaiya? I can never hate you, how can you even think that?"
"Thoda dimag kharab hai na iska." Rohit said, glaring at his brother. "Kya bakwaas kare ja raha hai?"
Both Rohit and Amulya expected an equally harsh comeback but Virat took them by surprise as he erupted in laughter.
"Bhai theek hai tu?" Rohit asked cautiously. He reached out to check Virat's temperature.
"Arey I'm fine. Just wanted to tell you guys I do care for you." Virat shrugged and turned towards his sister. "Unlike what that man must've told you Amu, I never told him to go away. I know how much you wanted him to be here on your birthday and I will never want to spoil anything that makes you happy."
"I know bhaiya." Amulya pleaded, her heart filled with guilt at her previous thoughts. "I was just angry I guess. I know you would never do it on purpose. I'm so sorry-"
"You have nothing to apologise for." Virat cut her off. "My temper is the worst, I know. And it's not fair to you guys. I keep fucking things up over and over again and you all keep on forgiving me. I did play a part in ruining your birthday, even if it was unintentional. The only person who should be apologising here is me."
"No bhaiya! Nothing's ruined. Aap log sab ho to yahan."
"I know but-"
"I'm not upset anymore, I swear."
"Thank God." Rohit sighed in relief. "Tum dono Kohli mil kar mujhe pagal kar doge ek din."
"Par tu to already-"
"You remember I still have the video of you saying 'Anushka takes forever to get ready', right?" Rohit smirked and Virat scowled. "If I were you, I would've kept quiet."
"Mujhe bhi dikhao! Mujhe bhi dikhao!"
