note: was gonna post earlier than this but god said fuck that and gave me depression lmao; i decided that the remaining 2% of my readers deserved a little - very little - scrap of the next chapter, so here ya go.

"...and that's why i would really, really, really appreciate it if you tutored me before exams come up."
y/n stood in front of karma's table during lunch, nothing but determination and desperation in her eyes. he didn't seem to be taking her too seriously though, but could she really blame him? the begging was pathetic—utterly pathetic. she probably would've gotten on her knees if it weren't for the small amount of dignity she had left.
he was unfazed. or maybe uninterested? he was hard to read one-hundred percent of the time.
he flipped his book shut and opened his mouth to answer. this was it. the moment she was waiting for. she was finally going to get the help she needed.
"...who are you, again?"
or not.
the determined sparkle in her eye faded away and was replaced with annoyance. "i told you my name at the beginning of my rant."
"well, i hate to break it to you, but i wasn't really listening to any of it," he admitted nonchalantly. y/n sighed and pushed herself off the table. no wonder why no one fucked with this guy. he wasn't just a psycho, he was a fucking asshole, too. who could've seen that one coming?
"then why didn't you just tell me to fuck off?!"
he shrugged. "i find it hilarious when people make fools of themselves."
"this was the guy that ema was going to set me up with?!" y/n asked herself in disbelief. "what the fuck?!"
"look," she began, trying to not snap at him, "my name is y/n, i'm failing almost all my classes, and i need help before exams come up. there, that's your summary."
karma leaned back in his chair and tilted his head to the side. "what does that have to do with me, though—?"
"oh, for fucks sake." he grinned at your reaction before speaking again, in a more serious tone.
"i'm just messin' with you. i don't really see an issue in being your tutor. as long as you don't mind paying a small fee for my services."
having to pay him was even worse than him laughing at her, and something in the way he said those words made her feel like the fee wouldn't be as small as he made it out to be. "i literally cannot pay you right now. plus, aren't you rich, or something? the rich don't need to get richer!" she argued.
"i guess you have a point."
"so you'll help me?"
"sure, why not?" maybe he was a little annoying and not what she thought he was at ALL, but he was still willing to tutor her, and that was a win in her book. who else was she going to get help from, anyway? the nerds were too introverted to carry a conversation, and they were her only hope if karma said no.
but poor, poor y/n. she was not aware of the mental torture she would go through with this boy as her tutor. he was an attractive boy, and that was just a fact. but he was also a mini fucking version of satan. she would be an idiot to underestimate the possibility of karma making their tutoring sessions a struggle.
and an idiot she was.
"seriously?" she question skeptically. "just like that?"
"yeah?"
"this isn't some sort of joke?"
"no?"
she gave him a look of disbelief. "and you're not going to beat me up for being incompetent?" karma raised an eyebrow, but he didn't answer. she was just going to assume—and pray—that was a no.
