"He is one of mine... One of my patients. He will not be discharged from this hospital without my consent." The words that I spoke seemed very strange to my ears too.
"I'm his family, you discharge him or I will call the police on you," he took a step closer to me " and you will regret it for your whole life". I took a step back I was about to press the emergency button behind the patient's bed when John entered the room with Melanie.
"Hi, oh! we have company here. My name is Dr. Bernard, I am the doctor in charge here." He said to the Korean guy and he came between us. "I will appreciate if you can come with me we have a lot of paperwork to fill out for your patient. We have to take him to Radiology for X-rays. Is there a problem Dr. James? There are more patients in the ER."
He looked at me with concerning eyes, I looked at the patient he was awake our eyes locked and I felt a shiver down my spine from his gaze. I left the room and came outside. I let go of my breath which I was holding after I saw his dark eyes.
"He is handsome, and he seems familiar I don't know why he looks like I've seen him before." Melanie said behind my ear and scared the shit out of me. "Mel you watch a lot of Kdramas."
"Oooohhhhh," with wide eyes open, "Of course he is. He looks like the Korean singer."
I rolled my eyes, "They all look the same to me." James used to say that when I named different actors in kdramas. I smiled to myself as I walked into the ER. There was no other patient, just the women and the biker boy. "Mel where are other patients, He said there are more patients. There is no one!"
"Oh! I was coming to grab the patient, but I heard him talking rudely to you so I paged Dr. John to come and handle the situation because I thought he might make things harder for you."
I looked at Melanie with gratitude in my eyes, "Thanks Mel for looking out." She had her eyes behind me, when I turned I saw John along with our radiologist taking my patient to the ER. I nodded and saw that stupid guy walking past them in a hurry and left the hospital. Thank God, I hope he doesn't come with his whole gang. I looked at my watch it was 3:57 am. " It is a long night. John was right."
After 2 hours, while I was sitting on my desk, the x-rays and MRI results came when an email popped on my computer. I rushed to the ER.
I knocked and I entered, there was another guy in black suit standing beside the bed with few bruises on his hands and slight bruise on his face. I gulped, as I entered and thought another danger is now waiting for me. "Hi, I'm Dr. James are you with the patient?"
He bowed to me and said "Yes, I am, how is he doing?"
I sighed in relief, "He is doing good, and I have just received the results from the radiology. He does have a fracture in one of his ribs, and his brain has no bleed inside which I was most scared of by looking at his head wound. The waist wound will take some time to heal. May I ask how you're related to him?" By looking at him I could tell that he was worried. He looked at the guy on the bed and said, "How long it will take for him to heal? When can he be discharged? I work for him. He is my family."
"The previous one said the same thing. Are you his friend or just a colleague?"
"Someone came? What did he say? Did he do anything to him?" He gritted his teeth as he asked me. "What did he look like?" He mumbled something in Korean. "Can I ask for a favor doctor?"
"Ammmm, Yes sure. You have to keep it a secret of whatever happened in this room. Can you move him to the VIP room? We are Koreans and we came here for work, but you need to keep him safe." I suddenly realized that he was whispering. I shrugged my shoulders and looked at him with questionable eyes. "I'm sorry but I don't know why this is necessary?"
He smiled and said "He is going to be disappointed, but anyways he is a Korean singer. He is Ryan from OPAL."
It felt as if I lost my voice for a second. Ryan for OPAL. The K-pop band whose songs were my playlist. It's weird now when I look at him he does look like Ryan. Wait, what if it's a lie? "We didn't find any ID on him? Why should I believe you?" I kept my calm but I got curious.
He took out a coach bag from the bag pack he had, and showed me his ID and Ryan's. But a different name. "Kim Ryan Jae". I was in disbelief, Mel was right. How come I didn't recognize him. I used to watch their MV's whenever a new song came out.
"Okay, whatever happened everyone on this floor saw it, if it involves the police I will not do anything except speaking the truth. However, his identity will be safe here, until he gets better. It will take him some time to heal, at least three weeks to be able to walk with a fractured rib. It's hard not to reveal his identity, since he himself is a desire for most of the teenage girls." I giggled, and he smiled too. He looked like in his thirties, he had mixed features of a Korean but he had blue eyes. His English was as of Native Americans.
"Thank you, if you can order his admission." He slightly smiled.
"It has been ordered by the radiologist, you need to sign the consent forms and some more paperwork. I will not be on duty after 8:00 am therefore, someone else might...."
"No, you said... I am one of yours." A distorted voice reached my ears. I looked at the person on the bed. He looked at me with half open eyes and said "I insist."
His words were like a shiver that went through my whole body. I wanted to run away from him even from his shadow.
"I'll send someone to move him." I looked at Taylor and left the room.
He is weird. I regretted saying those words. Why he repeated them like that? Was he listening the whole time? Was he awake when I was told that He was THE RYAN? My shift was about to end, a General Physician will take his case anyway in the morning. I need to stay away from him. The last thing i want is to get involved where there is attention.
It was a long night as I entered my apartment after my shift ended with thoughts of the eventful night. I laid down on my bed with legs hanging as I stared into the ceiling.
