Kyra and Alessia sat entangled on the couch. It was their day off from Arsenal training, and the atmosphere was calm, the sort of tranquil peace they both craved after the intensity of the season. The coffee table in front of them held two cups of coffee, their contents slowly cooling, forgotten as the pair basked in each other's presence.
Kyra sat leaning against the armrest, one leg bent as she cradled her phone in one hand. With the other, she absentmindedly twirled strands of Alessia's blonde hair around her finger, a habit she'd picked up early in their relationship. Alessia had always found it endearing—there was something about the soft, repetitive motion that soothed her. It made her feel like Kyra's touch was more of a reflex than a conscious action, a physical manifestation of her love.
Alessia was nestled into Kyra's side, her head resting on her fiancée's shoulder. She closed her eyes, her thoughts wandering as the quiet moments between them stretched out. Alessia's heart was heavy with love, and today, more than usual, she found herself thinking about their future. She kept her thoughts close for a while, but as they stirred restlessly in her mind, she knew she couldn't hold them in any longer. Without any preamble, the words tumbled from her lips.
"Babe," Alessia began softly, her voice cutting through the quiet, "you know I would have a baby with you at the first opportunity, right?"
Kyra's hand, still toying with Alessia's hair, froze mid-twirl. Her eyes widened as she processed what had just been said. Slowly, she lowered her phone and turned her head to look at Alessia, blinking in surprise.
"Less..." Kyra paused, searching for the right words, her Australian accent drawing out Alessia's nickname. "We're not even married yet. What kind of children are we talking about?"
Alessia smiled, her blue eyes sparkling with affection and a hint of mischief. "I know, I know," she said, sitting up a little so she could face Kyra properly. "But I just want you to know, I want kids with you. At least one."
Kyra's lips quirked into a smile as she shook her head, trying to wrap her mind around the idea. "Alessia Russo, you're wild." She reached out and gently tugged on a loose strand of Alessia's hair, a teasing glint in her eyes. "But I gotta admit, you'd look pretty damn good pregnant."
Alessia laughed, her cheeks flushing a light pink at Kyra's bold comment. "Stop it," she said, playfully slapping Kyra's arm. "You're being vulgar. I don't need your weird fantasies about pregnant women."
Kyra burst into laughter, the sound filling the room. "It's not weird if it's true! I can picture it now—you with your cute baby bump, absolutely glowing. You'd be a sexy mama, Less."
"Kyra!" Alessia groaned, burying her face in her hands, though she couldn't hide her own smile. "You're incorrigible."
Still laughing, Kyra pulled Alessia into a tight hug, pressing a kiss to her temple. Her voice dropped into a soft, affectionate whisper as she murmured, "You know, you'd be the best mom to our Aussie baby."
Alessia felt her heart skip a beat at those words, but she couldn't resist teasing Kyra in return. She leaned back just enough to meet her fiancée's gaze, her expression sly. "Aussie baby?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Kyra, when I'm pregnant with "your" child, I'll do everything to make sure that baby is born in England."
Kyra snorted, but she couldn't suppress her grin. "Is that so?" she asked, amused by the sudden competitive edge in Alessia's tone.
"Absolutely," Alessia said, her eyes gleaming with determination. "I'll stay in England for the whole nine months, never leave the country. Our baby is going to be born in London." She paused for dramatic effect before adding, "And Leah—oh, Leah would never let that baby be born anywhere else."
Kyra chuckled, leaning in to plant a kiss on Alessia's lips, her amusement evident. "Oh yeah? Well, I've got news for you, babe," she said once they pulled apart. "Steph would "never" let me live it down if our Aussie baby was born in England."
Alessia tried to keep a straight face, but the image of Steph giving Kyra grief over an English-born child was too funny. She cracked up, her laughter contagious as Kyra joined in.
They sat there, laughing together until the ridiculousness of the conversation became too much. Kyra leaned her forehead against Alessia's, her smile softening as she caught her breath. "We have no idea what kind of strange aunts our child will get," she said, shaking her head. "Beth, Leah, Lia, Viv, Katie, Steph, Caitlin... That's one wild family for a baby."
Alessia laughed and nodded, imagining the chaos their child would grow up in. "Yeah, but imagine the stories they'll have. That's a lot of cool aunts, though. We're pretty lucky."
Kyra sighed, her expression turning thoughtful. "We'll figure it all out later, though," she said, running a hand through Alessia's hair again, this time with more intention. "We're not even pregnant yet, and we still need to decide where this little one is gonna be born. Plenty of time for that."
Alessia nodded, her heart warm at Kyra's sensible response. But her competitive spirit wasn't ready to let go just yet. She smirked and leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You know what, though? I'll do everything in my power to make sure that baby wears a Lionesses jersey, like their mom."
Kyra's eyes widened, mock outrage playing across her features. "Oh, no, you don't! Baby Aussie is going to wear The Matildas jersey, just like their mama."
Alessia clutched her chest dramatically, pretending to be hurt. "Kyra, how could you even say that? Baby Aussie is going to be a proud little Lioness, and you know it."
Kyra crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow at Alessia. "We'll see about that. I think we both know how much pull I've got. Steph's on my side, and that's already a big win."
Alessia laughed, shaking her head at Kyra's stubbornness. "Fine, we'll settle this when the time comes," she said, leaning in closer. "But just so you know, our little Aussie is going to look adorable in a Lionesses jersey."
Kyra smiled, leaning down to press another kiss to Alessia's lips. "And just so "you" know, our baby will look even cuter in The Matildas one."
They pulled apart, both smiling, their hearts full as they imagined their future—wherever it might lead them. For now, the details didn't matter. They had each other, and that was enough.
With a contented sigh, Kyra rested her head against Alessia's once again, the conversation fading into a comfortable silence. The future could wait. Right now, they were happy just being here, wrapped up in each other's arms, on their day off from the world.
