A Moment Too Soon

I woke up to the light sound of rain pattering down on the car roof. I rubbed my eyes and turned over to Park Jimin, who remained in the drivers seat and just stared out into the dark abyss.

I went to look at the clock and saw that it was already 1:42am. We had left the store at around 12:30am and my house was only a 15 minute drive away so why were we still here?

"I see you had a nice sleep," he said to me with a soft smile.

Did he intend to stay with me till I woke up, even if it ended up being the whole night? The moon seeping through the windscreen scattered along his face and for a moment my heart stopped. This was the first time I had a proper look at him: his jawline was sleeker than in his cute, chubby picture and he had a rough, masculine look that would make any girls heart melt. However, an immense sadness sheltered in his eyes like he was a lost little boy.

I bit my lower lip unconsciously as I continued to stare into them. He was hurting.

"Would you like to sit in here all night staring?" He laughed.

"Ah I'm sorry, shit I must be wasting so much of your time." I'm such a dunce. "Thank you so much for all that you've done for me, I will always be in your debt. You can have as many Choco-pies as you like on me. Anyway, I'm going to go in, I wouldn't want you to keep your girlfriend waiting".

I mentally slapped myself as soon as I realised what I said. Feeling my cheeks beginning to deepen in Crimson I grabbed my purse and reached for the car door, but yet again felt the familiar squeeze of his hand on top of mine.

"I don't have a girlfriend Laura". He said.

A wave of relief swept through my entire body.

"Then who were those things for that you bought?" I asked, tilting my head. His head dropped a little and he let out a soft laugh, but sadness was practically spilling from his eyes now. My heart began to ache, as I knew I was worsening the pain he was desperately trying to cover. What happened to him that made him so lonely?

At that moment I lost control of my body and reached for his face. I cupped his chin with my hands and lifted it up while stroking his slightly stubbly cheeks with my thumbs. He rested his hand on top of mine and closed his eyes.

"As cheesy as it sounds my mother would always say there are bright, twinkling stars hidden behind every rainy cloud" I whispered to him. I saw his shoulders relax as he opened his eyes and started to lean in. I froze knowing what was coming and even though we were strangers that had only met a few hours ago I felt I could lay my trust in him.

Yearning for his kiss I also leaned forward and closed my eyes and his lips finally reached mine. Sparks of euphoria spread throughout my body as he pushed his tongue deep into my mouth. I instantly fell under his spell and laced my fingers into his, our kiss quickly intensifying.

I let my other hand creep forward and grabbed the nape if his neck and although we were contained within such a tight space it only made us more enthusiastic.

Jimin started to lean back against his door and I followed while trying to move as gracefully as I could over his gears. But with no surprise my hand slipped and it landed on the steering wheel causing the car to beep loudly.

We both stopped in our tracks due to our surprise and stared at the wheel, praying that we didn't wake anyone in my neighbourhood up. After deciding we were safe I looked back to Jimin to find he had returned to facing forward in his seat.

"We shouldn't do this," he said just as quickly as the moment ended. I blinked; he realised that this was a mistake. I awkwardly climbed back over to my seat and avoided his eye contact for the next minute. However, after convincing myself I leaned into him just once more and planted a soft kiss onto his cheek.

"I understand. Thank you for everything you have done for me". I said, my voice beginning to crack. I then quickly left his car and ran through the rain to my building door, not wanting to look back at Jimin; he didn't need to see me cry again.
