Lucinda's POVI woke up to the buzzing sound of my phone. Someone was calling me. I groaned as I picked up without checking the caller.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello, mi amor," the voice said, and my eyes widened as I recognized the familiar tone.
I jolted up and checked the caller ID, but it was an unknown number. Yet, I knew it was Alex. Why was he calling me?
"Mi amor, are you there?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.
I shut my eyes, letting out a sigh before opening them again.
"Why are you calling, and how did you get my number?" I asked, trying to sound calm.
"I got it from the group," he replied. "And actually, I'm right outside your house."
I let out a chuckle, expecting him to respond with a joke or a witty remark. But when he didn't say anything, I quickly stood up, my heart racing with anticipation.
He better be joking, I thought, as I checked outside through my room window.
And then I saw him , someone with his back against a car.
You've got to be kidding me. It's Alex. What is he doing here?!
"How did you know my house, and..." I started to ask, but before I could finish, he hung up.
This guy didn't really expect me to go outside to meet him, did he?
What if Lucas sees him? He would question me for the whole day.
I better go outside before he does anything stupid, I thought. I threw on a jacket and slipped on some slippers before heading outside. The living room was empty, which told me my mom was probably in her room, and Lucas had likely gone to the hospital to check on Dad.
I quickly went outside, and immediately, Alex spotted me. He waved and smiled, and I started moving towards him. He began walking towards me too, and we met halfway.
"The heck are you doing here?!" I asked, my voice firm. "And how did you even manage to find out where I lived?" I added, my eyes narrowing. "Are you a stalker or something?"
Alex burst out laughing. "Calm down, mi amor," he said, holding up his hands in mock defense. "I came here to see my mother-in-law," he said, a sly grin spreading across his face.
I furrowed my brows, incredulous. Was this guy kidding me? Was he high or something?
Noticing my expression, Alex burst out laughing again. "Just kidding, I just wanted to see you," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "And damn, you're looking beautiful with your hair down like that."
I face-palmed, embarrassed. "You should leave now," I said firmly.
"I need a favor from you," Alex said, his expression turning serious.
"Well, I'll do anything for you to leave my house this moment," I said, exasperated.
Alex smiled. "So, can you follow me to the beach next week?"
I scoffed. "Are you really okay?? Oh goodness!!! What is wrong with you?? And Why should I follow you? It hasn't even been 24 hours since I met you, and with the little I know about you, I don't want to have anything to do with you. You have your friends, take them to the beach. Can you please stop this and leave me alone?"
"Aww, that hurts, mi amor," Alex said, clutching his chest in a playful gesture.
Just then, the door opened, and my mom came outside with her walking stick. I quickly went over to her.
"Mom, is everything okay?" I asked, trying to sound calm.
"I heard your voice, are you arguing with someone?" she asked, her brow furrowed with concern.
"No...not at all..." I started to say, but Alex interrupted from behind me.
"You know it's not good to lie, Lucy," he said, his voice dripping with amusement.
I turned to him, my eyes flashing with annoyance.
"Who's there?" my mom asked, her head tilting slightly.
I hesitated, unsure of how to introduce Alex. But before I could say anything, he stepped forward, a charming smile spreading across his face.
"Well, my name is Alex Styles, and I'm Lucy's friend...or should I say, your future son-in-law?" he said, his eyes glinting with mischief.
I almost punched him right there. My mom, however, smiled and nodded, oblivious to the tension.
"You have a pretty smile, ma'am, and you're beautiful. I can see where Lucy got her beauty from," Alex said, his voice smooth as honey.
I rolled my eyes, incredulous at Alex's audacity and I was surprised that he didn't seem to be moved back about my mom being blind
"Mom, I'll send him away right now," I said, trying to intervene.
"Good lord ma'am , I came all the way to see your daughter to ask her for a favor, but she's insisted on me leaving," Alex said, chatting with my mom like they were old friends.
"What's your name again?" my mom asked, her voice warm and friendly.
"Alex, ma'am... Alex Styles. Don't forget that name, ma," Alex said with a charming smile.
"Alex? That's a nice name," my mom said, seemingly taken with him.
"See, your mom likes me. She's already approved of me," Alex said, his bluntness leaving me speechless.
"You must be a funny boy," my mom said, chuckling.
"Yes, I am," Alex replied, grinning.
"And a mother fvcking playboy" I muttered under my breath, but Alex gave me a look, and I ignored him.
Then, his phone started ringing. He checked the caller but ignored it. However, when a message popped up, his eyes widened in surprise.
He looked at me and smiled. "Well, I got to go," he said, and then he faced my mom and held her hand, surprising me.
"Take care of yourself, ma," he said, his voice sincere. My mom smiled, and Alex turned to me. "Don't forget about my request, Mi amor," he said, winking. I watched as he walked straight to the car he brought a car of his own
As he drove off, I turned to my mom. "Mom, let's go inside."
"That's quite a humorous boy," my mom said, chuckling, as I escorted her inside.
"He's not someone to write about," I replied, rolling my eyes.
"So, what should I prepare for you?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"Anything, Mi amor," my mom said, imitating Alex's term of endearment. I groaned.
"Mom, just stop," I said and headed to the kitchen to prepare something.
As I worked, my mind wandered back to Alex. How did he know my house? What was he doing here? What was his purpose? And what was with him telling me to go to the beach with him? So many questions swirled in my head.
