Lucinda's POV
I sat in the school clinic, surrounded by the antiseptic scent of disinfectant and the faint hum of medical equipment, with Xena by my side. She had dragged me here despite my protests, her concern etched on her face. I had assured her I was fine, but she wouldn't budge.
"I'm sorry we didn't finish our meeting," I said.
"It's okay, your health comes first," Xena replied with a warm smile.
Who wouldn't love someone as caring as Xena? But earlier, Angelina had glared at her with hatred.
Did Angelina know Xena liked Liam, and felt threatened because she liked him too?
Xena interrupted my thoughts. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing much," I replied quickly.
As Xena gazed at me with concern, she asked, "Do you think you'll be able to make it to the party tonight?" Her voice was laced with empathy.
I nodded reassuringly. "I'm fine, really. It was just a stomachache, and my brother has already given me the green light to go." I offered a gentle smile to alleviate her worries.
Xena's expression shifted to curiosity. "You need your brother's permission to go out?" Her tone was tinged with amusement.
I hesitated, sensing her mirth. "Yeah, well... it's just how it is," I replied, unsure how to explain.
Xena's lips curled into a playful smile. "Girl, that's kinda funny, though!"
Just then, the nurse walked in, carrying a small tray with medicine.
"Actually, excuse me, could you please keep my name out of the school clinic records?" I requested, hoping to maintain some privacy.
The nurse's expression turned apologetic. "Sorry, your name was recorded as soon as you arrived."
As Xena escorted me out of the clinic, she asked, "What's behind your reluctance to have your name in the records?" Her tone was genuine.
I shrugged, choosing to keep my reasons hidden. "I just prefer it that way."

I strolled to my locker, the combination lock clicking open with a familiar metallic sound. As I swung it wide, I spotted the drink and the letter still nestled inside. But my attention was drawn to a new addition , another letter, crisp and white, tucked beside the first.
"Whoa, a letter?" Xena exclaimed, her eyes wide with curiosity.
I pulled out both letters and handed her the one I'd already read. Then, I carefully opened the new one
Dear Lucy,
The Oakland School real game is about to begin. Even though it will be tough, I promise to protect you. Please stay strong. I noticed you weren't feeling too well. Take care.
Sincerely,
Your anonymous writer.
I finished reading and let out a thoughtful sigh.
"Can I see that too?" Xena asked, her interest piqued.
I passed her the letter, watching as she scanned the words, her brow furrowed.
"Wow, someone's been sending you letters?" she asked, handing them back.
"I got the first one yesterday, the second this morning, and now this," I replied, shaking my head.
Xena's gaze lingered on the letters. "But what does 'the Oakland School real game' mean? There's no game coming up of which I know "
I shrugged, tucking the letters back into my locker. "Just a letter, I guess."
"It can't just be a letter," Xena insisted, her eyes still fixed on the locker where the mysterious messages lay.
I attempted to steer the conversation away from the letters. "Did you and Angelina have a quarrel before?" I asked.
Xena shook her head. "No, she's a new scholarship student. I barely know her."
I pressed on. "What about her and Liam?"
Xena raised an eyebrow. "Lucy, she's new. How would Liam even know her?" She paused
But then her expression turned thoughtful. "Although, I was surprised when I saw her obeying Liam's command to stay put earlier."
I shared Xena's bewilderment. Angelina was an enigma ,skipping classes by jumping the fence,I also spotted an unusual mark on her arm, and displaying erratic behavior.
"Do you think she likes Liam?" Xena asked, snapping me back to reality.
I hesitated. "I...I don't know." But the memory of Angelina's adoring gaze at Liam during PSR flooded my mind.
Xena sighed. "Liam's lovable, but...ugh, I don't want to think about it."
I whispered, "Then don't."
We exchanged a silent understanding and headed to class
