Laxus sighed deeply, letting the water wash over his body.
I glanced from the corner of my eye; he hadn’t bothered to close the bathroom door.
Once again, he sighed deeply.
This had been going on for about twenty times in less than an hour.
Just as I woke up, I found him standing facing the back cabin window. The sun had risen and was beginning to shine on the trees. And I stared at his beautiful backside.
My cheeks flushed and I felt like exploding, remembering what I had done last night.
My body was still wrapped in a thick blanket. I started to move and sit up until Laxus noticed I was awake.
He looked at me, stared, and kept staring.
I didn’t know what he was looking for, so I couldn’t provide the expression he wanted.
Did I look strange?
My hair was obviously a mess, that couldn’t be helped. But something about Laxus’s expression kept me wondering.
The first deep breath began from there.
I kept hearing that heavy sigh until it became unbearable.
I walked to the bathroom, leaving the safety of the blanket covering my body.
My hand reached through the cold water of the shower until I could touch his skin. His muscles tensed at my touch, but he said nothing.
So I asked, "What’s wrong? Is something wrong?"
My body pressed against his back, feeling the cold water washing away the remnants of last night's fatigue.
Laxus shook his head gently, "No."
A short answer that didn’t satisfy me.
"Tell me if something is wrong. Did I do something to disappoint you?"
Laxus’s hand reached for mine, which was wrapped around his muscular abdomen, stroking it with his fingers. "I don’t know, did we do the right thing last night?"
I was stunned by his question, stepping back, "Do you regret it?"
Hearing the fearful tone in my voice, Laxus quickly turned and grabbed my hand before I could leave.
"I don’t regret what I did last night. You are the greatest thing I have ever had, and to have you, to be one with you, makes me feel like the luckiest man in the world. I’m just worried about what you think, Love, and what happens next."
That statement hit me, what will happen after this?
I did it unconditionally, without coercion, but it is true that under normal circumstances, I would never have done it. What's gotten into me last night?
Laxus looked at me sadly, "Have you finally realized it?"
I was speechless. I had no explanation to offer.
Laxus released his hold and walked past me, saying softly, "Wash yourself. I’ll go outside to clear my head."
Then I heard the door close behind me.
What just ended?
No, that’s wrong; it hadn’t even started, and suddenly it was all over.
If I hadn’t done it last night, then today, tomorrow, or forever, I could still be his friend, his companion.
But friends or companions don’t kiss, they don’t make love.
I stood still and imagined years ahead, being a woman who once made love with Laxus; maybe I would be seen as his mistress.
An undesirable position and one that society never acknowledges.
Imagining there would be another girl who could take the position as his girlfriend, his wife, the mother of his children.
I turned the shower on full blast, hoping it would wash away my irrational thoughts.
'It’s just one night stand, nothing special,' I told myself.
I stepped out of the shower and gathered the scattered clothes on the floor, trying to collect everything when the doorbell rang.
Has Laxus finished calming his head?
I walked with the towel tightly wrapped around me, even though Laxus had seen everything, I still couldn’t look the same.
I opened the door slowly and tried to sound calm when greeting him, "Are you okay? I thought we needed to...," my sentence was cut short as I saw three members of the Thunder Tribe standing at the door of our rented cabin.
My mouth dropped open in panic.
'I hope they don’t think anything weird!'
Freed was the first to break the silence, "What’s the meaning of this? Is Laxus hurt? Where is he now?"
Bixslow replied, "What do you think Laxus is? He’s not hurt, you’re too worried."
And Ever just looked at me quietly and calmly.
Freed asked again, "Quickly, where is Laxus?!"
"E-ehm, he said he was going for a walk. Just look around here?" I answered nervously.
It didn’t take long for Freed to rush in every direction searching for his master.
Ever broke the silence and asked Bixslow to help Freed find Laxus so they could go home as soon as possible.
Then Ever asked me calmly, "Can we come in?"
Still nervous, I nodded and let her into our cabin.
I regretted my decision when I saw Ever looking at the blazer still discarded near the sofa and the clothes I had gathered earlier placed on the kitchen table.
She cleared her throat at my reaction.
"Eh, it’s not what you think," I tried to explain the good lie.
Whether Ever really accepted it without suspicion or not, she didn’t comment at all.
"How did you find us?" I asked, once again trying to ease the atmosphere.
"Not easily, of course. Until Bixslow remembered that Laxus had booked a cart. We drove around the city to figure out where you might have gone. By nightfall, we saw dark clouds and a huge lightning bolt striking from afar."
Ever walked past the bedroom, her eyes briefly glancing at the messy bed, making my cheeks flush even more.
"We could only speculate that it was Laxus’s lightning until the cart driver returned to town, and we quickly asked him to take us to Erith."
"I don’t understand what Laxus was trying to do by taking you. But I guess I can understand now, even if it’s only a small part," she continued.
Ever’s hand moved to offer a small bag containing my celestial keys.
I reached for them and was relieved they weren’t lost or left behind.
"Thank you for bringing them," I hugged my precious keys tightly.
Ever walked to the sofa and sat down, "You’d better get dressed quickly. It won’t take long for Freed to find Laxus."
My ears and cheeks flushed again as I picked up the blazer from the floor and the rest of my clothes before running to the bedroom.
And indeed, just about 15 minutes later, Freed and Bixslow walked into the cabin, successfully bringing Laxus back with them.
