The climb toward the Temple of Aether had grown steeper as the terrain shifted from dense forest to rugged cliffs. Every step felt like a test of will, each breath harder to take in the thinning air. As the mountain trail narrowed, Éliane and Apollo walked side by side in silence, their thoughts as heavy as the sky above them.

"Do you think we'll make it in time?" Apollo broke the silence, his voice low, but filled with concern.

"We have to," Éliane replied, her eyes focused on the path ahead. "If we don't reach the temple soon... the Shadow will only grow stronger. But I have faith in us. We've faced worse."

Apollo glanced at her, admiring her strength even when the burden of destiny weighed on them both. "You always say that, Éliane. And you're always right. But I can't shake the feeling that something bigger is waiting for us at Aether. Something more than just a trial."

"You feel it too," Éliane said quietly. She paused for a moment, then turned to face Apollo. "It's like the air is different, isn't it? Like... like the threads of fate are tangling, changing in a way they shouldn't."

Apollo frowned. "I don't know how to explain it, but yes. Ever since the Council told us about Aether, it feels like something has been pulling at us. And last night, those shadow creatures... they weren't just fighting. They were trying to tear us apart."

Éliane nodded, her expression serious. "They weren't attacking our bodies. They were attacking our bond. The connection that ties us together. I felt it too." She reached out, gently touching the red thread that only she could see—her invisible tie to Apollo, glowing faintly in the dim light of the mountains.

"Whatever happens at Aether, we need to protect this bond," she continued, her voice firm. "It's not just about defeating the Shadow. It's about keeping us together."

Apollo smiled softly. "I won't let anything happen to it. Or to you."

"Same goes for you, Apollo," she replied, her tone lightening as she gave him a playful smile. "You're stuck with me."

They both chuckled, the tension easing for a brief moment before reality settled back in.

After hours of climbing, they reached a plateau where the trail widened slightly. Apollo stopped to catch his breath, wiping the sweat from his brow. "How much farther do you think the temple is?"

Éliane squinted up at the towering peak ahead. "Not far. But it's strange, isn't it? We've been traveling for days, but we haven't seen any signs of life. No other travelers, no animals, nothing."

Apollo nodded, his gaze scanning their surroundings. "It's like this place is cut off from the world. Hidden. Almost as if it exists outside of time."

"That's what worries me," Éliane said softly, sitting down on a nearby rock. "The temple is supposed to hold the key to unlocking the full power of our bond. But what if it's a trap?"

Apollo sat beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "If it is, we'll face it together. We've already faced so much, Éliane. This is just another challenge we'll overcome."

She looked at him, the warmth in his eyes steadying her nerves. "I know. But I can't help but wonder... why us? Why were we chosen?"

"Because we're strong enough," Apollo said simply. "And because we have each other."

For a long moment, neither of them spoke, the weight of their journey settling between them. Then Éliane broke the silence with a soft laugh. "You always know what to say."

"I'm just saying what I know is true," Apollo replied, his lips curving into a smile. "Now, let's get moving. We're almost there."

They stood, but as they turned to continue up the path, a sudden chill swept over them. Éliane stopped, her heart racing. "Do you feel that?"
