"LET'S JUST GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT!"

THE SIX TEENAGERS PANICALLY RAN TO THE FIRST CLASSROOM they saw and closed the door. Deena and Sam struggled to push the heavy teacher's desk against the door while Simon fumbled with the lock, his hands shaking.

"Hurry! They're coming!" Deena yelled, her voice tinged with fear.

"They're going to keep coming!" Kate snapped, her frustration bubbling over.

Simon let out a yell of desperation, "We're fucked!"

"No, we're not!" Kate fired back, glaring at Sam. "She is. They're coming for her. If we put Sam in the hall, we end this now."

Daisy felt a surge of agreement. Finally, someone was saying what she'd been thinking all along. "Let's just give them what they want!" she echoed.

Deena spun around, her face twisted in anger. "You two are monsters!" she spat, the accusation cutting deep.

Daisy's heart sank at the insult. The word "monster" coming from her girlfriend hurt more than she expected. "Okay, fuck you," she muttered, the sting of betrayal evident in her voice.

"We're being reasonable!" Kate said, "We can't run anymore. A bullet won't stop them, fine.  They're really strong. But, we just tried to goddamn explode them, and that didn't work!"

Deena's eyes were wild with emotion. "You're suggesting killing her!"

"We're suggesting not dying!" Daisy shouted back, her voice cracking under the weight of the situation.

Josh spoke up, trying to mediate. "I mean, that's not exactly what they're saying..."

Deena's eyes flashed with disbelief as she turned to her brother. "Are you on their side?"

Daisy snapped, her anger flaring. "Are you kidding me? You'd let us all die to protect her? You'd let me die?" She grabbed Josh's backpack and emptied it onto the desk, throwing down the files of all the previous victims. "Look at this! All of them — dead! This is the only way, Deena. Sam's gotta go." Her voice was shaky, her breath coming in gasps.

Deena looked at her girlfriend and ex girlfriend, "Are you kidding me?" Deena, teary-eyed and trembling, looked at Daisy with a mix of betrayal and heartbreak. "Is this your way of proving I love you?" she whispered, her voice cold.

Daisy's chest tightened as she muttered back, "Wow, you really think that low of me?"

Suddenly, Sam spoke up, her voice soft but resolute. "Kate and Daisy are right." She inhaled deeply, her eyes filled with sadness. "I don't want you guys to die for me. I'm going." She looked down at her feet, steeling herself for what was to come. "I'm ending this."
