"I'm divorcing you,"
W-what..
My heart dropped as my knees had begun to tremble at the sudden sentence that fell out of Liya's mouth.
"L-liya.. what are you talking about?" My voice shaky with nervousness pouring throughout my body.
"Like I've said, I'm divorcing you and leaving." She stood firmly. I could feel her sharp gaze.
Why.. why is this happening to me..
We were happy.."N-no.." Nothing comes out of my mouth, I couldn't form coherent sentences.
"W-why.."
She sighed,
She takes a good look at me and walks closer."I've found someone who actually loves me and let's me drink my beer."
There was a lump in my throat.
"B-but.. I DO love you.."
"Do you Niney..?" Her eyes started to fill up with tears, and I couldn't wipe them away like I had before.. before all of this.
"Y-yes.. Why don't you believe me!" I suddenly yell out, her eyes widened slightly as she took a step back.
oh.
I took in a shaky inhale,
"How long have you known this.. guy.." I question, not daring to look in her in the eyes.
"His name is Mepad, I've known him for.. a while now.." Liya says, trying to keep it vague.
"I thought we were happy.." I said, tears in my Latina eyes already started to spill out.
"That's the problem." she said softly, "you thought.. I've just.."
She pauses.
She fidgets with the necklace around the neck, one I don't recognize.
He bought that for her, didn't he..
The pearl necklace decorated her nicely, as if the necklace was made specifically for her. The white orbs wrapped around her neck made me think.
He is going to pay.
Finally, she speaks up after a long period of silence.
"I-i didn't want to hurt you, but I can't keep pretending."
My heart aches.
"Liya."
"Niney"
"Please.. give me a chance to work this out I know I can fix this" I pleaded to her, hoping that it goes through to her.
How badly I want to save this marriage, the kids, save us..
My dreams get immediately crushed after Liya replies with a cold, menacing tone.
"No, I've already signed the papers."
It was then when she handed the papers. The most hurtful papers that one one ever wants to be on the receiving end.My heart dropped when I saw it, her signature already on it made me realize something.
It's over.. isn't it.
I didn't want to come to terms with it. I shouldn't have to, I don't need to.
I take the papers from her hand, her cold not touching mine. The words "divorce" were scattered around in the document, with her cursive signature at the bottom of all of it.
I take a deep breath.
"I'm only doing this for Toni.." I mumble.
She nods her head and sighs, her breath reeking of beer. I've never liked to see her drink, it always reminded me of that time we almost got into a car crash at Walmart back when we were still happy and young.
How much has she changed.
I grab a nearby pen and decide to fill out the last missing signature.
"So that's it..?"
"I guess.."
A long silence came between us. I tried looking her in the eye, and maybe.. just maybe I could see a tear falling down.
"Let's tell Toni."
