The man's voice was deep and hoarse, carrying a pressure even more oppressive than dark clouds. In Jiang Tingyu's ears, it was like the hiss of a venomous snake, filled with danger.
Jiang Tingyu's fingertips trembled uncontrollably as she clutched her phone, but her gaze was caught and held by the man, unable to look away.
It had only been a day since they last met, yet somehow she had encountered him again. She wondered if this year's fortune was cursed.
Inside the black sedan, Xie Jihuai leaned against the seat, his long legs crossed. His neatly pressed suit pants tightened due to his sitting posture, outlining the firm lines of his legs. His slender fingers tapped rhythmically on his thigh, producing a dull thudding sound.
After a moment, his gaze shifted, sweeping over the two cars that had collided.
The front bumper had only a minor scratch; it wasn't serious.
"Miss Jiang, do you need help?" Xie Jihuai's voice was low, tinged with a lazy indifference.
Jiang Tingyu looked at him warily, not believing he was truly being kind.
It seemed like he had something to say to her yesterday, but her father's sudden arrival interrupted him.
However, Jiang Tingyu had no interest in knowing what he wanted to say, nor did she care.
"Thank you, but no," Jiang Tingyu replied politely, maintaining her courtesy.
Xie Jihuai raised an eyebrow slightly, his eyes narrowing as he cast a brief glance at the accident scene.
The driver of the other car leaned against the door, smoking a cigarette. His greedy and calculating eyes were fixed on the Jiang family's car, as if he had already made up his mind to take advantage.
Such people were hard to guard against, the type who would make you pay dearly if they latched onto you. He had seen too many like that.
"Alright," Xie Jihuai nodded slightly, a faint smile playing on his lips. "I won't bother you then, Miss Jiang."
His gaze retracted as he looked at his phone, his jade-white fingers swiftly tapping on the screen.
Half of his profile was bathed in sunlight, revealing his sharp, well-defined jawline. Even in such a casual pose, he exuded a regal air, as though he were in the middle of a photoshoot.
Seeing that he was about to leave, Jiang Tingyu felt a small sense of relief. She could still vividly recall the sinister expression he had shown that day, and every time she thought of it, her limbs would tingle with fear.
Uncle Yong, seeing that the car accident would take a while to resolve, thought it best to inform her mother.
"Mianmian, I'll call Madam and ask her to send another car to pick you up."
Uncle Yong walked over to the driver's seat and pulled out his phone, preparing to make a call.
Jiang Tingyu's scattered thoughts finally snapped back into place. Her clear eyes rippled like a lake stirred by the wind, waves of panic surfacing.
If her mother found out about today's accident, her photography studio might not survive.
No, after putting in so much effort to open the studio, she couldn't let it dissolve just like that.
But what could she do?
The slender girl stood by the roadside, a few strands of hair dancing in the warm breeze, partially obscuring her clear eyes.
She carried a tote bag that didn't quite match her delicate figure. The bag was heavy, causing her shoulders to droop slightly.
Just a few steps away, the engine of the black sedan roared to life. The girl's eyelashes trembled, and her tightly pressed pink lips parted slightly, "Mr. Xie."
